Better Week

Thank you all for your kind words on the loss of my shepherd. It made me feel more sane.
Well we went to an animal shelter where I had made sure they had nothing I was interested in,, just to play.
We saw a lab dane mix that I really wasn't interested in. But my husband was down on all fours petting this dog who was very calm for a 7 month old pup. Well I knew our other dog wouldn't like him but she was ok so the next day I had my son and his family meet the dog, wanted to see how he was with my grandkids. When he laid on the floor next to my two year old grandaughter calm as can be what was I to do?
So we now have an 80 lb 7 month old pup who is still growing and me with a 4 x 8 tear,,, think I need a side tent.

Maybe he'll curl up? My 80 pound lab likes to spread out so even a five foot wide seems too small. He puts out a lot of heat, which is good. Congratulations on adopting a Used Dog.

80 pounds at 7 months... That fellow will probably go 160 pounds grown.. ;) He can just pull the 4x8 tear.

Congratulations! Sometimes they pick you first and there is no denying it. Our last one did the same thing. They know.

Steve may be on to something, maybe a full harness? A mini horse size should be about right...

Here's a suggestion. Image

Sometimes I take my boy to work and he helps carry gear. He didn't like being a pack dog at first. A friend said to put dog treats in the pack and my boy would figure out that he was carrying goodies. It worked.

Yeah I figure I am all set now. If my Beetle should break down I can hook the dog up and off we go.

I definately plan on having him carry a pack on the trails, at least his own dogs treats and water.

True. I have a 93 year old client that had a German Shepherd back in WWII and always wanted another one. He finally convinced his 4th wife to ride to see a breeder.

There were 5 different mothers with liters, but one mother came up to his wife and affectionately nudged her head against her leg. She immediately said, "I want a puppy out of this mother's liter." From one mother to another, she sensed that this dog would pass that same warmth and kindness to her pups, and she was right.

The pup they got is a wonderful people dog and somehow knows to be extra gentle with kids. On top of everything, it's more her dog than his the way he loves her and lays by her feet. This is everything the husband wanted because she's 27 years younger, and he wanted this dog to remain in her life long after he's gone. A very touching story.

Sounds like a nice pup found you. I truly believe the dogs pick us. We went to the shelter to look for a female Australian Shepard or Border Collie mix, We left with a male Boxer, Lab, Spaniel mix. Nothing we could do.
