What song(s) do you want played at your funeral?

What song(s) do you want played at your funeral?

Postby planovet » Wed Dec 15, 2010 4:35 pm

Call me morbid or call me prepared, if I'm ever killed while on duty I have my whole funeral planned out, down to the music. I've been to many a police funeral and wonder what the person in the casket would have wanted. I know some may say "I'll be dead and don't care", but I do. Here are a few of the songs I have picked out:

And Cindi has picked out a few for her funeral:

Does anyone else have anything picked out that they would like to share?

No disrespect meant, but if they play country music at my funeral... I'd be glad I was dead. :R

I figure that pretty much covers the mood of the day.

The last couple of funerals I've attended were for my sister and mother. I couldn't tell you what tunes they played. I couldn't tell you what anyone said...or who was there, or wasn't.

The only gathering at a church that I do remember the music is at our wedding. The idiot keyboard player played This Masquerade by Leon Russell. He thought it was funny. I could have punched him in the nose. 30 years later, we saw him playing at a department store. He still thinks it's funny.

We're still married.

Moron.

Hmmm ... makes me wonder if I should make a list. I wouldn't want someone playing this at my funeral. :R
For those of you who haven't heard this before, listen at least until 1:24 ... it starts out pretty slow.

On a more serious note, Daddy's Hands would be nice.

I don't want a funeral. Just cremate my carcass and toss me in the ocean.

A memorial service would be okay, I guess -- more for my family than because I want one.

My preference would be for a farewell kegger.

A good, old-school New England clambake would be my wish. No funeral, as I'll be cremated with as little fuss as is possible.

If I had to pick a song, though, it would be one from my all-time favorite movie, from my all-time favorite movie scene, with Alan Rickman and Kate Winslet (who, incidentally, is an incredible singer, as evidenced):

"Someone to Watch Over Me" by Chris Botti. Anything by Chris Botti is good.

Don't want a funeral but made it known that I want permanent markers by my coffin and everyone who wants to can write something on it...a farewell message.
