Our handmade Christmas Tree

Postby nevadatear » Sun Dec 19, 2010 4:27 pm

I realized when decorating this year our Christmas tree is now decorated with only 2 types/categories of ornaments: 1) Those handmade by myself, my husband Randy, or other family members; or 2) those we have obtained on our trips and vacations since we have been together (8years). Hope you like, we love it! My husband now makes a new wooden ornament for us and our children each year, made from unique wood obtained on our travels, like Koa from Hawaii, or Mahogany from Peru (downed scrap wood obtained from locals, not protected wood), and I make 3" patchwork quilted ornaments.

One of Randy's wooden ornaments, one of my patchwork/quilted ones, and ornaments from Hartville, OH, Ecuador, and Chicago. And hearts I made for each child over 25 years ago and a ballerina from group of nutcracker felt ornaments I made over 30 years ago.

I also completed our new grandson's stocking, in velvet, with my 1/2 a thumb no less.!

Now that is a real traditional Christmas tree. Great ornaments Debbie, those are the best kind. Each with it's own memory. We like your Christmas village too. Thanks for sharing it! Mery Christmas to you both too!

I would have to agree entirely! It's wonderful to see!

Last year, when I was extremely poor, my children & I made this to top our Christmas tree, since my ex kept all the Christmas stuff during the divorce (No, it's not an angel of death). Everybody made a contribution to the design; My daughter wanted it to have fairy wings; Both my boys wanted it to be a skeleton (I love pirates, and seem to have passed that on to my babies):

Our tree is also festooned with many construction paper chains, and my daughter & I have amassed quite a collection of cut-out paper snowflakes to decorate the house:

It's kinda funny... my girlfriend has agreed to keep my angel to replace her very expensive Victorian style angel, should we combine households, because my children have become very attached to it.
When I was a kid, most of the stuff decorating our house was school projects; Construction paper chains, strings of macaroni, etc...
Nowadays, everything seems to be store bought.

Those are truly great decorations for the Christmas. I miss making paper chains and stringing popcorn for the tree. Maybe I should teach the my great neice and nephew. ;)

That really is one beautiful tree. I love the fact that your ornaments are all unique and personal.

The hand made ornaments we have are the ones the children made in their young school years and the rest of the ornaments are either gifts to us, one's we've bought during our travels together, or special ones we bought to commemorate something. Each ornament means something to us and this year like every other, we (the kids and I) procrastinated about decorating until the wife got mad and then we all dug into the box and started hanging them on the tree. All the memories, stories and laughs started flowing and it really makes the Christmas season wonderful.

I feel terrible for all of you who are unable to connect with family this year, due to circumstances or location. After all is said and done, the real reasons for the season are to celebrate the joy of family and to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ.

My best wishes for a Merry Christmas to all of you great people on the forum. I've never personally met a one of you , yet I still feel a certain closeness. Can't wait until my trailers built and I get a chance to meet some of you in person. Hopefully by next fall! Cheers!

Love the skeleton angel! Who better to be an angel than a skeleton? Beautiful cutwork, it really is pretty!

I'm a "theme" kinda guy. Any of you who have seen me will understand...

I used to decorate my tree in NEW themes every year..this years theme is.... Non existant since the economy is in the toilet. No tree,no ornaments, no presents.

Just happy to have those that I love around me and a roof over my head.

Great tree and ornaments nevadatear...in the true spirit of Christmas !

Love the handmade ornaments! And I spent the majority of my life without a tree. Didn't do the commercial Christmas thing. Now Mike loves Christmas and we do it up! 8)
