Tonight's Winter Solstice Lunar Total Eclipse...

Postby Dean in Eureka, CA » Mon Dec 20, 2010 11:06 pm

Last time this happened was 372 years ago...
After tonight's event, it won't happen again until the year 2094.
Safe to say, this will be the only one most of us will be able to experience.

So... Is the weather going to cooperate in your locale?

Showtime starts for us here at 2051 hours. Won't have to lose any sleep, there's crap on TV, rain stopped at noon, clear skies all around, all my chores are done and it's a balmy 22C deg outside. Am I looking forward to it? You betcha!!
Thanks Dean for the turnaround timings. Didn't know that, so it's become more special for some

Nuts. Over 300 days of sunshine followed by 300 starry nights a year, and THIS night had to be cloudy. The clouds were reflecting a deep orange glow from 1 to 2am, but that's about it.

Glad to see some were able to see it
There are some peictures of the eclipse at www.spaceweather.com
As Gage mentioned last night, it's still raining here So Cal, so I missed it.

Those that did see it, The Red is from light filtering through our atmosphere, Also the was a nice Turquoise on the edge, that coloring is from our Ozone layer

Well, keep looking up, some things can be a real treat. ;)

It was quite an event, and nicely visible here in NJ.

Shot with my Canon SX10is point and shoot. Unfortunately I had my ISO too high so a little grainy. It's hard to think clearly at 3:00 am.
