Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Shot with my Canon SX10is point and shoot. Unfortunately I had my ISO too high so a little grainy. It's hard to think clearly at 3:00 am.

What a reversal. I gotta say, we Arizonians have a little bit of sky snobbery with all of our observatories, we just expect to have the best celestial seat in the house. Not this time!

Being a southwest kinda guy, I never thought I would say this but, I wish I was in New Jersey last night. Thanks for the pic to live vicariously through your experience.

Scott:

I am fortunate in that I live in a still rural part of norther NJ, away from the big city lights. The sky was incredibly clear last night, also due to current weather conditions.

I am certainly glad I got up to witness it!

My son's pic with his Canon. He's hoping for a telephoto lens for Christmas, or at worst, with Christmas money!

I am sooo... jealous of that picture you took! Great job! I have a great picture of the solar eclipse back in 1991 passing over Hawaii. Seen a few other peoples post of the eclipse also. It would have been absolutely a milestone to have taken a photo with my camera to add to the wall!

The moon was nice and bright early in the evening (8pm) but when I woke up at 2am to check out the eclipse the clouds had rolled in

OK everone

Was this a neat event?

How about taking a step up, maybe over the top

It's a few years off, but not too early to start thinking about it, but....

do you realize that we will be haveing a Total Solar Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, 2017 thats only six years away

This will be the first Solar Eclipse since 1918 that will sweep across the US from coast to coast, will enter the US on the central Oregon coast head across the central US to the coast of N. Carolina

How about a couple gatherings with-in the path of totality

Ck-outp; http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/local_circumstances.HTM

For details

I know people that travel around the world chasing these things, so in 2017 this will be with-in about 1,000 miles for most anyone in the 48

DON"T miss this one

Count me in for the next eclipse, and luckily within driving distance! I have seven years to figure out what photo/telescope equipment to gear up to shoot that one photo!

Cliff, Check out the eclipse website, there is a seperate page for Photography, should give ya a place to start.

http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/local_circumstances.HTM

I know most of our guys hook up thier cameras through a lap top with shutter times pre programed so they don't have to think about the camera and just enjoy the eclipse, do need a traking mount, but nothing really over the top for a non-astronomer

Al,
Count Joanie & I for an event in Oregon... 8)
Looking at the maps right now...
I'm seeing Lincoln Beach on the coast as being dead center in the totality path...
Fogarty Creek Rec. Area close by, but looks like day use only.
There's gotta be a good campground somewhere in the path, whether it be near the coast or inland.
(Fogcrawlers prefer the coast, especially in August)

People flock from all over the world to see these... We need to get it dialed in early.

Farther inland... Silver Falls would be a good place for an eclipse gathering. It's not in the center of the totality path, but it's real close and it's a spectacular place to camp...
Think you can make reservations something like a year in advance too.

Dean

I'm not real familiar with the area, but the main thing in the general planning would be normal afternoon weather conditions

I know that August is pretty goog in the eastern Oregon deserts....where as the mid-west is known for the sudden afternoon thunder storms

You can plan for years, it only takes a few minutes of clouds to wash it away

One of the points that our experienced chasers look for is a location near a highway that runs with the eclipse track that would give the optionb of running a few miles to avoid a percistent cloud

Just something to think about

A PARTIAL ECLIPSE IS BORING!!
WE RECOMMEND YOU GO NORTH TO WYOMING TO SEE TOTALITY!

At least, that is what the link Al posted tells me.
God Bless
