Hey Russ How you doing?

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Well my propane budget just decreased. I ran out of one of my 20lb tanks and went out to get the empty filled at U-Haul. Cost $15.50. I was previously paying $21.00 That is like getting one week free. Merry Christmas Russ.

Sounds like you have most of the issues figured out. One thing to caution you about, is the exhaust gas from the heater. It is well over 350 degrees F when it exits the furnace. I couldn't measure any higher with my digital thermometer. It could be much higher. So you need to keep the exhaust clear of anything combustible or anything that has the potential to restrict the exhaust.

I will be away from my computer for the next few days.

Merry Christmas to all.

Someone was asking for photos of my inside So here enjoy.

1. The front and a little of the heater on the left wall.

Image

The 40 cup coffee cup /Hot water tank and sunken sink and Convection Oven and Fridge and soon to be gone blue flame heater and stove I might even have room now for the microwave.

2. The spot where the exhaust is going to exit the trailer.

Image

3. The spot from inside where the furnace is going to be inside running parallel to the bed side facing away from the wall. The cabinet will be removed to a new spot. I know that spot is not going to interfear with me crawling into bed.

Oh guess what just arrived? :applause:   :D

Here is the furnace and parts in photos:

Image

Above: The pipe on top goes inside the extending vent as a intake from outside air. The round exhaust pipe goes inside the intake vent. You'll see soon enough. Doesn't make much sense that exhaust would be vented out the same location as the intake air. Would not the exhaust be sucked in by the same air going out? But this seems to work so on we go. This is the top. The extensions can be cut down. It is going just behind the swing bar to the left. Under neath it will just miss the floor brace for the propane supply pipe.

Above: Looking in front of the furnace. This will be covered up as the front face vent will send heat through this here. This furnace is going to put out more then I expected. Just look at the heat exchangers and located in the center of the trailer all nooks and crannies will get heated.

Temporarily set so to line up the hole for the vents to be installed and cut in the rear. The rear end job.

What a nice Christmas surprise, getting that heater today. I'll bet you have it running sometime tomorrow!

Keep the pictures coming, and good luck with the install!

Not unless Lowe's is open.

Did you see the part about the propane cost? That is like a stocking stuffer.

Your moisture problems aside, even though everyone claims it is safe to breathe/live in an environment filled with combustion products, I don't believe it.
Read closely the general use guidelines and anti liability clauses, and you'll find that heating a large building, with a window cracked open, is "probably" safe.
All that in a tiny trailer, may not turn out to be, it is your health and future you are gambling with...

I admire both of you for doing something most cannot, or would not, but I sure don't want to see you be killed or disabled because of it. :(

Well let me explain as to why I had purchased the blue flame heater in the first place. You see it was suppose to be a heat source for temporary late fall early spring camping. In fact the whole trailer was suppose to be for camping only. I had a house and on a few occasions I would use it for winter as a hold up while exploring the hobby I have whether I was going to Harrisburg to do some archive photographing or photographing the abandoned railroad that I am deeply into. Only after I left my girlfriends home that I took up residency in it.

Now that winter is here is where I ran into the problem so it was good but not for permanent use. I quit agree that it should not be used for situations I am in.

Thanks once more

So Russ,

Is your installation about 50% complete now... just waiting for Lowes to get the copper line, right?

Mike...

P.S. Merry Christmas, have fun at your son's house!

P.P.S. In a little while I'll have a picture to show you... let me know if you think someone could live in it full time...

Yeah Right!

No I stopped just at the last picture. I have to get the Jig saw to cut out the alum and that is in the storage shed about six miles from here. Just laying out and thinking about things.
Merry Christmas to all.

I know where to get the copper pipe. I am using the black rubber propane hose passing through a extra wide hole beneath the trailer encased in foam insulating tubing for cushion so when it bumps during travel the foam takes all the bumps. But I am going to get copper for this installation. The thing that worries me is when traveling over grass that something might grab the copper. But then it could easily grab the hose I suppose.

Tomorrow I should do more

Thanks

When I went to get a rubber hose fitted to my setup, they wouldn't make me one. Something about being against the rules...

So we had no choice but to use copper. But as it worked out, copper was pretty easy. We had to buy a tool to flare the copper, but I think it was easier than using rubber hose.

The place where I got my regulator has them already made up. I saw them. I will go there Monday. Don't want to mess with that stuff. Might just take the furnace with me for him to install the pipe. Then come back to the trailer to continue placing it. I don't seem to like where they have the fitting. Kind of would have rather had them already have the pipe bent so you can come from the side. Hey I got a good deal I think though.

I do like the rubber hose coming from the tank to the fitting so I think I will stick with that.
