Traveler's gift ideas ... please help :)

Postby EffieRover » Wed Dec 15, 2010 11:37 am

I'm trying to put together a Christmas gift for a couple that travels frequently. They drive and ride motorcycles depending on the weather / length of trip, and while they used to camp, they gave up the camper for the motorcycles so it's all motels these days.

Anyway, so far I have the basic stuff like auto a/c adapter, car blanket, discount travel coupons, mini umbrellas, eye masks and neck pillows. I'm also using one of those stand-up car organizers as a gift basket to hold everything. (They already have the big-ticket items of GPS, mp3 players, digital camera, AAA membership and pre-paid cell phones.)

I know this is slightly off-topic, but I'd really like this to be creative and I believe members of this board will have some really good input. What is your best travel item in the car?

Thanks in advance!!!

Not terribly creative, but you could get them gift cards for various chain restaurants along the way.

Extra memory card for their camera.
Coupons for printing their digital images at walmart.

How about a travel kettle, make tea, coffee, heat soup etc. I have one of these and it heats faster than a microwave.

I like that ... although "customers who purchased this item also bought Ground Hide Glue" ... ummmm ...

And I had at first been thinking of rounding out the gift with a card for Cracker Barrel. Thanks for reminding me :)

- A gift card or gift certificate to download music, etc for their MP3 player?
- Additional pre-paid phone cards.
- An emergency, pre-paid phone card that can be used at a pay phone or at someone's house, in case something happens to their cell phone or it doesn't work in the area they happen to be in at the time. (Mountains and valleys surrounded by mountains are notorious for this.)

- A "Go Girl"?

I picked up some of those (the hot pot is a neat idea) and I think I've got something going. Thanks all!

how about subscription to audible (if they have an mp3 player of somekind) for audiobooks for the road? We listen to books or podcast downloads on our travels. I know some of the newer helmets have ipod jacks.

There is a book titled Travler's Gift :)

They could read it in the hotel room.

How about the small travel-size games like Scrabble & backgammon or crossword puzzle books, etc.

Sears has a pretty good deal on a pair of plug-in in-car warming coffee mugs right now ...

About half this list plus travel binoculars, u-shaped pillow and neat sheet. They liked the gift certificates for reading especially. Txs

:applause: All's well that's ends well. (Even though they didn't get a large, cast iron Dutch oven.) ;)
