I know nobody cares and everyone has their own opinions but here are my observations on the two teardrops pictureed here. Both are wonderful. They both show great conception and planning, tight craftsmanship, and very fun projects to be sure.

The first one reminds me of a Thomas Kinkade painting or a Disney creation. It is a perfectely executed form of art that would be fun to have and admired by all who saw it.

However, the second teardrop shows a level of artistry so complete in every detail that it truely deserves the two plaques sitting on it's running board. As art I would compare it to the gritty work of Robbie Conal's Art Attacks. The details of the headlight bucket turned BBQ, just large enough to burn two burgers and nothing more, the beer can holder embeded in th pull vehicle rear fender, the washtub sink and the radiator grill and old license plates hiding the air conditioner make for a complete immersion into the creators thoughts as he completed this work. I don't know who he is but he is very very good at what he does. No corners have been cut here, hours and hours invested yet it feels like this trailer just happened out of neglect. It wasn't.

So Thomas Kinkade or Robbie Conal. Different strokes. Hey! I love Disneyland. But Robbie Conal, that's gritty.

Robfisher,
I'm glad you brought all those tiny details to my attention. On first look, it just seemed like a rusty ol' truck and teardrop to me.
Speaking of rust, he must have to store the truck and teardrop to prevent any further rust from destroying the whole effect. Or is there a way/coating/treatment to hold the rust in check?

Rob, I have to agree with you 100%.

The truck and trailer combo is a perfect match. I can't imagine what was involved in waterproofing the corrugated steel though, what a challenge!

The whole "rat rod" thing has me kinda peeved. I tried starting that trend back in the 70's with the first few cars I owned.. never took hold back then.

Yep, they got Peoples Choice and Brightest Idea at the second ITG.

And here's a closer look at the beer can holder

And just for the hell of it, here's their other teardrop that they also brought to the 3rd ITG. Some of you from the Kansas area may recognize it.

Hey Cliff, that's one of the '5 wide' guys (also a member of this board) and that's no Rat Tear, only the truck.

Yes, I knew that. I couldn't find any other Rat Tear pictures other than the two posted. I just wanted a reference to show what a rat rod was. Here are pictures that I shot myself as a rat rod.

I love the first one though I can't for the life of me figure out why the perfect shiny wheels. I'd way rather see rusty old tall spoked wheels from yesteryear on there. I've not got an eye for art though and maybe thats what makes this piece art. :?

That 2nd tear/truck combo reminds me of a trend in steel bike finishes that's been catching on lately. Instead of painting them a nice color, they're powdercoated with a clear finish that protects but lets one see the rough finished actual surface of the frame. You can see every detail of the joinery, the filing and skilled metal craft of the frame builder. Here's a recent example from Rivendell Bicycle Works, one of my favorite bike companies:
