Source for pre-fab doors

Postby Woodstramp » Tue Jan 04, 2011 1:04 pm

I think I can build everything for my new camper, except good (-looking, water-tite) doors.

Seems that I recall someone here buying some nice black doors off Ebay. Can't seem to find that supplier now. Anyone have some links for TD doors? Thanks.

Google: Vintek RV Vintage Trailer Supplies + EBay
They carry the same type of doors used in Little Guy Trailers.
Pricey.

I got mine on eBay, but the seller I dealt with is not selling them anymore. I paid $250 each plus shipping.

Here is a link to that Vintek eBay listing...

How's Grant Whipp?

Sorry, I quit following this thread when somebody posted the link to Vintage Tech's doors.

I'm Grant Whipp and I own Li'l bear Tag-Alongs ( www.LilBear.teardrops.net/parts.html ), a source of teardrop parts for the homebuilder (and some small Mfgs.). I used to sell some pretty darn nice doors, but the mfg. stopped building them, and I have haven't found a suitable replacement for them ... so ... no, I don't offer doors anymore. Again, sorry.

Good Luck in your search, though, and as always ...

You might check around locally for a source for custom made mobile home doors. I needed a door to fit an opening sized 24" x 54". in 2005, I bought a door for my utility shed that I was building. It's 48" wide, clad in aluminum, and prehung in s four-sided frame that attaches like RV doors do, with screws in the frame. And, the door is only 1 1/4" thick, but uses a standard lockset. I stopped by there a few months ago to ask if they could make a door to my specs an they said yes. I ordered it a couple of weeks ago and it's ready for pickup. Of course, these are plain, square utilitarian doors and not as fancy as most teardrops have. I'll post a photo of it tomorrow after I get it home.

You never know, try checking the for sale thread and watch it close. I found a set almost half price listed under a "trailer parts for sale" listing.

Thanks for the additional replies. I will check them out. BTW, I just found a local trailer customizer of utility rigs. Haven't actually got to swing by there, but will when time allows. The main holdup on my build right now is preplanning for the door and the AC unit.

Grant Whipp,

My post "Hows Grant Whipp" was suposed to read "Who's Grant Whipp?" (fumble fingered the keyboard) Anyway, now I know who Grant Whipp is. :) Howdy. :D

Prefab doors are available at www.bigwoodycampers.com. You can also find a kit there for everything needed for traditional doors.

For me it bought peace of mind, and a relatively "easy" installation.

I wasn't sure of my own personal construction skills/knowledge to make something that would function properly (not to mention air & water-tight)...coupling that with the cost of acquiring two sets of windows, latches, locks, handles, hinges and anything else I left out, and it was the safer way for me.

Yep, certainly a big bite in the wallet all at once...but the time involved to research how to do it and then construct it (again, for me), while adding up the cost of acquiring all the parts, and it was my best route. (Note: "my" best route.)

All the best!

I called my Local RV place. for a complete, pre-hung door they wanted $600 :x

looked at Ebay and while there are some deals there the shipping cost was killer. $> $> $>
