Hello and need help with King Richard

Postby OutsideArt » Mon Jan 03, 2011 4:29 pm

Hello all,
My name is Art and I've been intersted in vintage campers for a while. I have a '55 Chevy wagon and a '53 Chevy truck and have collected some camping related accesories as well. I've been a long time lurker on the site with thoughts of a teardrop. I've looked at a few to purchase, but they all seemed like complete teardowns for alot of cash. As luck would have it, I just came across a King Richard for the right price. It needs a tear down and rebuild which is okay with me, but I would like more info on it if anyone has any. Here are some pics

Any thought, help. info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Art

That is one very ambitious project you have on your hands. It's nice to have found something vintage.

Good luck to you! I can't wait to watch your progress.

So what kind of help are you looking for? By the way, was that VW intake part of the deal?

Thanks everyone,
I am going to need alot of help coming up and this seems like a great place to get it. Is there anymore info on the King Richard trailers than whats online. I would like to know production numbers (mine has a 400# stamp on the frame). As well as colors, it looks like the graphics were red (Ifound a good pic showing paint scheme).

I plan on tearing it all down and seeing where I am. the sides seem to be in great condition and the doors still close perfect so I am considering reusing the skins there. The top and galley lid may need to be replaced. the galley seems to be almost all there and complete and I can't decide on kustom or og look.

The VW manifold was on it when I looked at. I am getting it from a friend that I helped with an old westfalia a few months ago.

You'll find that the main difference between the Benroy and the King Richard was the skin. When the demand for teardrop trailers started to drop off because the 'Canned Hams' were becoming more popular, Bennet sold out and hence the King Richard.
