Deviation from the thread...

When I joined USAA, you had to be Active Duty, Retired, or a child of an active duty or retired person. My father in law is a retired Navy Lt Commander.

We recently received a letter from USAA, letting us know that the eligibility requirements had changed to include anyone honorably discharged, not just retired. That might open USAA to a lot of you that were not previously eligible.

Now back to your previously programmed thread... :D
God Bless

That's good news about the settlement Tom. With any luck you'll be able to find an excellent tow vehicle replacement so you can enjoy this summer's camping. I'll bet you're chomping at the bit to pull the Silver Beetle out for that first trip.

You are quite a craftsman Sir.

Regards, Dave

Tom,

Glad the settlement worked out, I too use USAA (have for many years) and they do take could care of their clients.

The build is looking great! Looking forward to seeing up close one of these days.

Scott,

This is going to sound like a USAA commercial, but they offered me about $2000 more than what I thought the CR-V was worth and then added the value of the sales tax, and license and registration.

So....this is the result of our good fortune (other than being in the wreck in the first place):

Let's see - what is on the Beavers Bend list?

Vacation days approved by boss...check
Tow Vehicle...check
Teardrop...?

Take care,

Awesome new TV Tom! Sometimes things happen that seem bad at the time then we find out the universe has something better in mind for us. Your Silver Beetle is going to be towed in style.

As far as finishing in time...GO TOM GO, GO TOM GO!!!

All the best,

Dave

Looks like the new tow vehicle will handle a travel trailer that is well beyond tiny. :)

Hi Tom,

I'm fairly new to this forum and am just starting my own build.

I've read your entire build and can't thank you enough for all of the incredible techniques you've thought of, shared and passed on. I've learned too many tricks to list and hope I can just remember a few. I admire your patience, skill and dedication. You and others here display true passion and it's an inspiration to us all. :applause:

Best of luck, thanks again go sharing,

Terry :D

Thank y'all once again for keeping motivated! I've been busier than a ____ the last couple of weeks.

I finished the interior cabinet face frames and cases. The cabinet adjacent to the galley bulkhead is tiered. The lower section has space at the back for two bottom-firing speakers. The two compartments at each end are open cubby holes. Next two them will be the interior switches. In the middle, there will be a drawer with a flip-out 19" LCD television. The upper cabinets have three compartments with cabinet doors. The center section will have space for a DVD player and car radio. The outer two compartments are for storage. Here's some random pics of the interior cabinet construction:

About a week ago, I realized "finished" was not possible in time for the Beavers Bend gathering at the end of March. So, cabinet construction has been put on hold, and I am in the "get it campable" mode. By that, I mean weathertight and that's about it.

First task is to finish the doors. I needed to cut pockets for the lockset latches and deadbolts which was a little daunting. It turned out to be not that bad. I sealed the wood with JB Weld, then installed the strikeplates and locksets. Here are a few random pics of this work:

Next up for this weekend are the installation of the windows, installing door and hatch seals, and some type of hatch latch.

Thanks for looking and take care,
Tom

Good focus Tom! Get er Campable! You could camp now if you installed the windows and some bungee cords and I know you can do a heck of alot better than that! I am going to join the crowd with a big congrats as you ride into your first gathering!!!

As always nice work Tom. Good plan on the approach to get it sealed up and campable, I have a feeling it's somewhat mandatory to hit your first gathering in a partially complete rig anyhow, isn't it?? :)
