Today I applied CPES to all the exterior siding, the door, and the insides of the wheel well covers. In a few days, I can finish skinning the exterior.

Sure glad it was a very, very windy day because this CPES stuff is poison. Without the wind I doubt that I could have painted it on in one pass. This stuff sure is thin. Perhaps I just bought highly volatile water.
Image

As I mentioned earlier, I painted the inside yesterday. Didn't correct the white balance so this picture looks grey but is WHITE.
Image

This door is really heavy because it must be double thick to hold the standard lockset and also because it must be rigid to reduce, if not eliminate, the tendency to warp.
Image

I had to add pieces on the inside to backup the lockset and a nifty set of three hinges.

That is looking good, Mike. I'm getting all kinds of good ideas from both you and Sharon.

Mike,

Your Where or When is looking fantastic! :applause:  :applause:

I know what you mean about CPES. I applied it outside and even with a respirator it almost brings you to your knees. (BTW - I noticed a build on my second coat that I didn't see with the first.)

What is your final finish for the outside?

Take care,
Tom

I was wondering what would happen with a second coat. If the first coat does its job of penetrating and sealing, then I would expect that the second coat has nowhere to go.

I will paint the exterior for the final finish, but I don't know what kind of paint to use. I'd like something that makes a nice smooth finish without brush or roller marks. Perhaps this is wishful thinking. Spray painting at an autobody shop may be the best solution. What do you think?

Interesting, I didn't notice anything unusually bad with the CPES fumes on mine. I did mine in my driveway with a roller. Maybe I have a high tolerance LOL

I also saw coats building up from 2-3 nicely.

Mike, my next door neighbor can spray it for you with whatever you wish. He does a great job and he's reasonable.

Thanks, Cliff. I'll consider that when I see how good a surface I can create.

Since I have quite a bit of CPES left over and with this recommendation, I'll apply another coat.

Mike,

I think you'll be happy that you applied the second coat. The outer veneer of the plywood I used was open grain and the second coat filled most of the pores. If your plywood also has an open grain outer veneer, then the second coat should help provide a smoother base for paint.

I did 3 coats, primarily because the CPES was there, and I had no other use for it. I think the 3rd coat was unnecessary, but the 2nd was very beneficial!

It took me 3 coats before the end grain plywood stopped absorbing CPES.
And I kind of liked the smell :? , I must have been a junky in another life.

Today, my neighbor Gerald and I worked on a few items. First, the door hinges were attached.
Image

Next, we located and attached the handle and lockset.
Image

With the door on the trailer sure looks different.

Next, we surveyed the route for the gas line from the propane tank to a tee and thence to the stove and fridge. It looked as if we'd only need a few fittings to go along with the three hoses I picked up last week.

Alas, the only way to fit all the pieces together was to purchase about 8 fittings and two more hoses. Different size fittings, different sized threads, and elbows that we couldn't find all added to the complication and cost. In the end, we did not fasten the hoses and tomorrow I'll go back and try to get a different set of parts, hopefully fewer than today. I'll see if Lowes has what we need.

Arrggghh, I hate plumbing stuff. Its always at l least three trips to the hardware store and I'm apparently the only weirdo in the world that needs whatever fitting is missing. :x The trailer looks great and I like your door hardware (all though I would have rotated the handle 180 degrees) .

Very nice, Mike! I hope to see lots of detail on how you weatherproof the door.
