Hello everyone. I'm goin to start to put my cabinet in the front part of my trailer and I was wondering if there is a certain height it should be at? I know I need enough clearance for my legs to be comfortable to move around. Thanks in advance!

I have approximately a foot between mattress and underside of cabinet. It seems to be more than adequate, plus I can shove my duffel bag etc under there to get out of the way.

You'll do fine. Take your time, and don't tell anyone about the mistakes you're bound to make, just figure a way around them like I did.

Depends on how big your feet are! You might put your feet under a kitchen chair or similar and see how you do rolling over and bringing your knees up. What you don't want is a struggle getting in and out of clothes.

When I built my cardboard mock up I left a foot from top of matress to bottom of cabinet, worked great for my girlfriend, but I wanted a little more room, 18" works for me, its amazing what a few extra inches can make.

I'm with DH on this, I would want to allow for a thicker mattress in case I have a need later.

May feel silly, but be sure to get in there and physically lie down in different positions.

As I was putting together my wall (between the galley and the cabin) I expected my estimate would be satisfactory. Testing it out though, I realized I needed to build in some extra room to get in more comfortable.

Many people get some duct tape and cardboard and make a quick display. This can also help with aestetic designs, as your eye can see them, rather than just imagine them.


On paper, it seemed fine.
In reality, it needed some tweaking.

Remember to allow enough room to reach the foot of the sleeping area so you can: 1) make the bed, 2) retrieve that lost sock, and 3) retrieve the cat that thinks it's a great hidey-hole.

Ask me how I know about #3 ;-)

My TD has almost 2 ft between the floor and the underside of the storage lockers at the foot of the bed, and it's a bit claustrophobic when I have to go in head first to tuck in the sheet, or retrieve the cat.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I was feeling energetic at 7am this morning and went out and put my shelf up. So far so good! I'll see how the rest goes

In addition to feet clearance....think about your shins. Depending on how deep your cabinet is you might want to consider them also. Just what I've experienced. Doug
