General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby bohemian » Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:10 pm

I love fly fishing. And fly tying.
But I recently stepped over to the dark side and taken up float fishing and when I master the Wallis cast I'll be loving life.
I think for me it's not really about catching, I do like to catch fish
but I'm just as happy if I dont.
It's more about using the tools of the trade the technical stuff. And just being around water.

I think I unfortunately have a competitive streak and I'm not really happy about getting skunked which happens more often than not. I also grew up about 1/2 hour from the ocean and did mostly deep sea fishing growing up. Now that I live in Northern Nevada, the closest ocean is about 5 hours away and the cost of getting on a deep sea boat just doesn't sit well $> :money: I'm trying to adapt to stream and lake fishing but I don't seem to be getting over the learning curve real well. Anyway, since I'm fairly far past the mid century mark, I hopefully am gaining patience and losing the competitive streak and can start enjoying fishing for what it is. A way to connect back to nature, recharge the internal batteries and dump the stress. Before I go camping next time, I plan on stopping by Cabela's or the Bass Pro Shop and pick up a short rod for stream and creek fishing.

Is there a "Stream Fishing for Dummies" book? I could use the help

My spot wouldnt be so bad, if rangers would just stop jumping out of the bushes, asking for your licence ...
I guess, 10$ a year, is soooo unrealistic , that hardly anyone gets them.

All this talk about Fishing has me fired up again !! Any of you fisherman have one of those Teardrops with a detachable boat on top ...??? Although I'm mostly a "bank" fisher, sometimes a little boat would be handy for fishing those "points" ...
There’s no place like Foam !

I would love to be fishing, but up here in the Sierra's it's been the land of endless winter. the spring run off is real cold right now and the snow pack is still pretty high. The fish are sluggish right now but looks like its' warming up next week. Don't think I'll be seeing any fish that size coming out of the Truckee River

We had a pretty good memorial day on lake barkley fishing. Didn't catch any really big fish but we still had fun. :D

Lake Barkley is my favorite. Did you guys camp over the weekend?

The worst day of fishing is better then the best day of working.
:)

If there is water, I'll fish. I rarely catch anything but water, but I enjoy every minute of it.

I also like to land fish (metal detecting), but don't find much there too.

Yes we did. My dad and step mom have a trailer there and the donaldson creek boat ramp is about a mile away. 8)

50 years ago, I would go to my uncles in Madisonville KY and he would take me to Kentucky dam. I caught a Gar fish and when it surfaced he cut the line before I could land it.
