Hi Slow,
I enjoyed reading your reply!
The Minnesotan, Cars, got it partially right in that I made a choice. Why I made the choice had a lot more to with conserving a finite resource than it had to do with money! When I pass, I will not be judged as a poor steward with squandering the wealth of this country. This is where I am coming from!
We Americans wasted our natural resoureces by being weaned on cheap energy. Times have changed. We use over 25% of the world.s energy and make little effort to reduce the consumption. Couple this with the emerging third world countries ever increasing the demand, the devaluation of the dollar, and the diminishing oil reserves of this country; the cost of energy will spiral upward.
I can readily understand a business owner, a rancher, or a construction company using a pickup or what ever for the business. What I cannot understand is a 100 lb. woman commuting 60 miles roundtrip in a pickup truck to a $10 per hour job. Something is wrong and that is that energy is too cheap. A pickup truck is the family car of Texas!
Wait until the Arabs will accept payment for their oil in either Euros, Russian rubles, or Chinese Yuan or maybe even gold. Then $5.00 a gallon gasoline will look like a real deal.
Take care,
Maury
