My desires for a standie or slouchy would be:

Permanent bed. (I hate having to make and unmake a bed every day)

Bed must be 78" long (I am 76" long). 80" would be ideal. Access from either side a plus!

Dinette for two (mostly to play cards in inclement weather)

Clothes closet for hanging at least one suit and one dress (we have taken our teardrop as our rolling bedroom, and had to dress up in somebody's house later)

Roll out storage under the permanent bed for Camp Chef stove, umbrella, etc.

Storage for most cooking utensils, dishes, pots and pans.

Inside sink, though not necessary, would be nice.

Ability to store in a garage. I've been thinking about creating a mount for a torsion axle that would allow it to be unlocked and rotated to raise the tires into the body, lowering the ground clearance to a few inches for storing in a garage. It would waste a bit of interior space, but if it saves me $100 a month storage fees, it might be worthwhile.

I think I just described Carter's railer! One of my favorites! (it does have a porta potty inside)

We like the grasshopper design and an inside potty is not a big thing for us.

What if we just asked our members to step up and help support the forum? I'll bet if every member ponied up a fairly small amount, it would end up being enough to run the forum just fine!

We're working on an idea for that too! I should have something to share with you guys in a day or so...

Cliff and Mike

I would hate to see this site go-away

I like this very friendly site and the group of people who hangout here.

I try to donate a small amount every so often.

while it's not much I hope it helps.

maybe we all could chip in mike has made it easy to do just go to the "DONATE" above and follow the steps.

I know times are tough, but if we could all pony up whatever is affordable then I agree with Cliffmeister, we should be able to run the forum for a loooonnngggg time. I think the information that I've gotten from all the folks on this forum is priceless and would willingly pay an annual fee if it came to that, but I don't think too many people would agree.

But getting back to the original question, personally I voted for the 12 footer with large outside galley. But I like Droids' idea. Throw them all on one CD and sell them as a package. Just my 2 cents

one CD

Postby nrody » Mon May 02, 2011 11:04 pm

I voted "other" because each design has its pros and cons and with options one could incorporate what they like into their build.
Another reason is all the designs are very interesting and it may take a while to really figure out what you want. Having options in hand is nice and you do feel like you got a bargain.

Just wondering what the approximate operating costs are per year for this forum.
If we had a rough idea we could at least figure out how much money needs to be generated.

The "Donate section says it costs $65 a month. That's $780 a year. If just 39 members donated $20, the year would be covered.

Both good points. OK....I'll confess I've not been paying attention to the costs of operating this forum, have taken this forum way too much for granted. So I just donated. I find that the operating costs are just almost never mentioned....so they fade into the background of life.

Is there a way to have a section, or a feature, that could keep us apprised of the financial needs. Maybe something like a fuel gauge to let us know how things are going. Even in this economy there's no reason that folks can't put in a little here and there. The forum should be self-supporting.

I think a new design that could be purchased on eBay would be a nice project, but my personal vote would be for you to put that money in your own pocket, without hesitation. It's your work that you would be selling.
Thank you for all that you've done.

Well, that was easy and painless! Worth it for a site with great information, easy vibe, delightful community and tons of posts from a big bunch of sweeties*. Let the Teardrops roll!

If I were to do a set of plans to sell on ebay, to help pay for the forum, and if you were a newbie who suddenly just got interested in those tiny trailers, which trailer plans would you be most inclined to buy on ebay?

Mike...

Timidly jumping into a trailer build I think a novice builder would be most interested in a 4x8. With gas steadily climbing we will be more and more inclined to tow with smaller and smaller cars. I am currently building a 4x7 for just that reason.

I think the plans could be augmented by scaling up the same design to a 5x10 perhaps by simply using dual dimensions.

I relied heavily on this vintage design......

for my first full sized 5x10 teardrop.

This basic 1936 design is tried and true and has proven to be very very popular ( look around at any gathering ) so keeping the plans simple and easily understood will add greatly to their sales popularity.

Thanks for all your help guys. I'll send you all an email as well.

We are currently waiting for a shipment of something that we are going to send to all the people that donate this spring/summer. I'll post more information here once the shipment arrives.
