I roughed up the foam on the cover (threatened it with bodily harm, broken arms, etc) .. hehe. I was just having too much fun rounding corners and making pink foam dust!

What grit of sand paper did you use?

Also I was thinking of a sticky for Joinery issues/topics. Such has your windows and doors. How to fasten to the floor. What people have used and their experience with it.

I used 80 grit sanding discs. Very aggressive, you have to keep the sander moving and use a very light touch, or you'll put a deep gouge in the foam faster than you can say, "What the heck!".

I am going to try a test today on two small samples, to see if there is a significant difference between sanded and un-sanded.

Mike , in my "test", on the un-sanded foam , the cloth lifted fairly easy , on the sanded foam when I tore the strips off , some of the foam came with it ..

Great progress Mike. I will be watching with great interest. I have been designing a foamie/wood hybrid myself for the next build.

Any reason you are choosing to cover it in canvas rather than fiberglass cloth other than cost reasons?

...I hear if you dampen the canvas, and throw it in the drier for a few minutes, it will take the wrinckles out... but that's just what I've heard.

It does. I did that and I even ran an iron over mine after the dryer.

Well, the temps were above freezing today. Actually they were slightly over 70 when I went outside this evening, so I decided to play with the foamie. I recently purchased some vinyl spackling for this purpose.

So I went outside and put some spackling on the first side. While it was drying the rain moved in. So I pushed it back in the garage. I guess I am done for today.

I sure hope we have a decent weekend for building!

Like wood filler/putty only white ... sorta' ...used on drywall

Same as I used Mike ... worked fine , made a chalky mess when sanded...

does this stuff dry hard? is it just for the purpose of filling in holes/gaps? it won't hold 2 pieces together correct? is it used pretty much just to make things flat?

do you have to sand it?

Eagle , it's just a "filler" for dents and such .. not a glue ... Say you're hanging a picture on the wall , and the hammer slips and you put a dent in the sheetrock ... spackle fixes that ...
Yes you trowel it on , let it dry and sand it flush with the surface ... "makes things Flat " ... Great for those little dents and scratches that seem to get into foam sheets ... You just have to let it dry Thoroughly , before you sand it ...
