Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself...my name is Shana and I am from SE Wisconsin. My husband and I have camped in a pop-up with our 3 boys (ages 11, 14, and almost 17) since 1999. Prior to that we were in a tent. While the rest of our friends and family are upgrading to bigger, bigger, bigger campers...we have always had a dream to go smaller and own a teardrop. Our youngest is just now at the age where he'd rather be in a tent with a friend, than in the camper with mom and dad, so I think it's the time to start thinking about a teardrop. (We're thinking of using a kit for the base, or possibly buying a used teardrop, and the customizing to meet our needs.)

I hope if you are in my area you'd be willing to show yours off.

Hi Shana,
We are not REAL close, but we are having a gathering on June 3rd, 4th and 5th. You should come, and you could see a lot of trailers.
We are on the eastern border of Mn. and western Wisc. Go to the St. Croix chapter to see details.

I am also in SE Wisconsin -- Elkhorn.
You are welcome to come check mine, but it's a home-built. I don't know how much it will help you figure out which commercial one to buy.

One other option: there is a teardrop campout coming in mid-June not too far away

It's at Rock Cut State Park near Rockford, IL. You could probably several teardrops there.

Hi Neighbor,

West Allis here. We built ours last winter. Started with the Kuffel Creek plans, and then came on here and expanded our knowledge. Happy to show off our Little Tin Can anytime. It was a blast to build and even more fun to camp in. We also have a 15 yr old daughter who, when she comes with us, brings a friend and sleeps in a tent nearby. It works out great for us.

Burlington here.

We have a 5x8 Pleasant Valley Ohio Amish made trailer that we just love and can not say enough about. Pleasant Valley is associated with the Little Guy high end trailers now and make a really nice trailer.

5 foot wide is 60 inch inside and equal to a queen side bed. 4 foot is alittle to tight for our tastes. We chose the 8 foot long for the weight savings, but sometime the extra two feet seem like a good idea. What ever you get you will love it and the people you meet are the best.

They are the cadillac of tear drops and even if you can't afford one they sure are nice to look at and get some ideas from.

Hope you like dutch oven cooking as that seems to go with tear drop camping. Most of our gatherings involve a saturday night pop luck. Wear loose pants to a gathering.

My wife and I are retired school teachers and are always open to meeting new people and showing off the tear.

Whitewater here! Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll enjoy this group. Keep an eye out in the Midwest section for gatherings!

As to the teardrop--we have the same model as Gary and Cheri and I echo everything he says. The galley is kind of small, but still great for storing things. We have some tables that we bring along in order to get a little more work surface. And anyway have decided it's not necessary to actually cook in the galley itself--it stays cleaner that way.

We feel the Lil Traveler is affordable and just right for us. We love it

There is a gathering in Rockford IL at Rock Cut State park June 10-12 if you would like to join us. Or just drive over for a visit and see a few in the same place.

You are welcome to take a look at my camper (although it is home built) since we are really close -- we live in NW Milwaukee, nearly Menomonee Falls.

I think others have posted great ideas in seeing what else is out there at gatherings and what people have done.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I have actually been busy planning our summer vacation (still planning to take the popup this year). We are headed on route 66 to the Grand Canyon and Zion National Parks. Should be fun, we have road tripped for our summer vacation since 1999.

Still researching teardrop plans...Now we are thinking maybe we should build.

One suggestion is come to one of the tearjerker gatherings (link at top of page) and see what folks have. There is BIG gathering coming next month Crossroads of America July 14th through the 17th that will have a smorgasbord of different designs and folks more than willing to show them off.
