I wonder if Dove-tail jointing in main body panels if it would work in making a strong and one-piece type construction of a shell.

Dove joints would look great and add a lot of gluing surface. But thinking about it wouldn't a box type of joint be about as good and probably easier to do?

This foamie technique is amazing! Great stuff!

Looks to me we could have some serious compound curves and radii built in foam sheet and glued block, shaped with a power hand planer, and finished with an orbital sander.

Had I known about this last year, it could have been an option for me instead of making a model, mould, and fiberglass corner caps! Dooh!

It's looking great Mike. I thought of trying a foamy hatch on the new trailer but than chickened out. That was just before all the new foamy stuff started so I'm back to thinking I need to build a new hatch with foam. I still like the wood look on the inside of the hatch walls so I'm not sure how much weight I'd really save.

wow, that cut is so clean. i seriously would not have expected that. but it looks good. hmm, maybe i won't be so chicken about cutting my outlet out.

Mike, when you cut that foam with canvas/TB2, what type of blade did you use?

Just thinking about using saw I envisioned the threads being pulled out. Sort of like drilling through carpet, that just does not work.

Since I have a piece of canvas covered scrap, I figured I'd try putting some fiberglass resin on part of it to see if it hardens...


I notice that it's melting the foam!

Well, at least you know the canvas will stick well .... Must be polyester resin huh ??? Epoxy won't melt it AFAIK...

It was a little bit of a shorter day on the foamie build, since I had to build a computer desk for my mom.

But the floor is coming along nicely... Here, you can see, the chassis and floor is almost done. Still have to do the wheel wells, and then flip it over and add reinforcements to the dropped floor. Then the black goo!



Just for fun, I dry fitted the walls again...

Absolutely. The weight of the walls is resting on the floor, not on a few screws...
