Right on Alfred! You must be getting down to a pretty short 'to do' list now.

Al, the trailer is really coming along, just wondering though if you will need to fabricate a cover for that front window when driving in the rain? It looks like a sure leak..

Hey y'all,

Thanks, it is getting closer to done!

I have the windows sealed well with the butyl putty tape, but I was thinking I need to come up with an awning/shutters or something, to keep road debris from hitting it.

Several years ago, I was following a dump-truck and it kicked a rock into my windshield, would not want a similar thing to happen to the front camper window. But an awning/shutter would keep out the rain, too.

Seems to me there was thread about the risk of front windows, awhile back, here on the T&TTT forum.

I'll keep you posted!

Hey Al,
Missed seeing you at Racoon Holler. There was 35 or so campers. Sat. night potluck had 50 some-odd people there. It was a fun weekend.

Hey John & Linda,
Sorry to have missed, I worked on the camper the past 2 weekends hoping to have it ready - made some progress but didn't quite get there. Sounds like a good gathering! Are there any more coming up locally any time soon? I'll keep working on it and look to get to next one...glad to hear everyone had a good time! All the best, AL

6/10/11: Sliding Bunk Mock-Up

Postby Alfred » Fri Jun 10, 2011 10:26 pm

Hey Gang,

Finally - Here it is with the rails and a mock-up of the bunk (I want to redo the bunk in a hardwood) - But it is cool to see the concept in fruition!

The bunk slides forward to allow access to the galley/storage:
Image

...Then the bunk slides back at night, when the kids are going to sleep on it. Allowing it to slide allows for a bigger bunk...

Image

Here it is from the inside, when it is in the sleeping position

Wow! Getting closer to getting it done! I'll keep you posted!

I love it, Alfred! :applause:

I wouldn't take the time, money, etc. to rebuild the bunk. Just use it the way it is and see how it does. I think hardwood might add a few more pounds and make it harder to move/slide. What I would do, however, is add a small lip or upright handles of some sort on the two sides (not the sides that slide...the other two sides of the "bunk"...front and back?) so that the mattress stays in place and doesn't slide off easily. If you look at a few futons, you'll see what I mean.

The planning on the galley light came out good. You can use it for the galley when cooking and the kids can use it in their bunk at night for reading, etc.

Lookin' Good Al! Almost there!

What kind of latch are you thinking about using for the hatch door?

Back latch

Thanks, its getting there!

For the side doors I used the hardware designed for aluminum screen doors, which I obtained for a good price at a close-out sale.

I haven't gotten the latch for the hatch yet, would like to keep it simple. I'm not sure what I am going to do for the hatch latch, at this point. Open to suggestions!
