Silly Foamie Ideas

Canvas covered foamies (Thrifty Alternatives...)

Just have to say Tink'sDad was really an inspiration for these continuously evolving ideas ... Although the Beer Can might have been considered by some , a "silly" idea , the evolution into the FoamStream, has given your humble narrator a new focus , direction and excitement into Foamie design considerations ... Thanks Dad !!! ... and Everybody else too !!! 8) :D

Just in case you missed it , here's the link to the Foamie build that shows how a nose would be sculpted... http://www.goldbrand.info/motorcykelhusvagn2.html
That's easy ...

Really considering this as the next project ... looked at many designs , much thinking.... I can make a 6'X12' Standy , with only 6 sheets of Foam for the main body part , and can cover the entire shell with one piece of canvas...no seams (depending how wide the canvas comes .) Streamline shape should be Easy to tow , less affected by winds and weather.. The inner ribs , done in the "wagon" style is well proven throughout History and is a tremendous source of strength and rigidity ... The stringers , which tie the ribs together (even stronger) providing ready attachment points for most anything we want to add... As far as interiors , there's no use figuring anything on the inside should be structural (save the bed and cabinets) , so the cabin could be decorated in most any manner ... Perhaps some thin decorative fabric panels screwed to the many attachment points ...
Just too many Good things happening with this design and it seems really EASY to make ... I'm going to make some more drawings ...

OK, here's yet another drawing ,showing the ribs on 24" centers (only need 7 for a 12' trailer... Purposefully left the floor plan blank ... with the door in the rear , requires re-thinking the layout ... over 72 sq.ft. of floor space , plus the nose .. should be plenty of room for a Cozy layout ... I'm going to print out a couple of these to pencil in some possibilities..

Any ideas from you would be greatly appreciated...

I'm back. The twins were a joy; but I knew that before I even drove down there. (GPW..... missed the message about stopping for coffee; but time was limited and I don't think I could have dragged myself away from the twins any how.)

I'm amazed at the ideas that have surfaced in this topic while I was gone. I said I would post a couple more pics when I got back. Here they are. Based on the same enter through a small galley and the bed the long way (means you have to crawl the length of the bed). They are ideas in progress, so a little lacking on some details. I also had a brain storm while driving on how to make the bed into a usable dinette area. Needs some refining before I put it forth.

The FoamStream will definitely end up on my drawing board in one fashion or another. While I was driving, I was also thinking about ways to laminate ribs ala Scott. (I think Mike did it also for the side wall frames of another concept trailer.) It's been 45 years since my high school drafting days; but I think I can still remember how to layout the sections for the curved front. It may not be perfectly round; but close enough.

I'm walking on dangerous turf here...

I've got the frame for my "Cargo Hopper" build painted, and I'm going to get the hardware today to start putting the suspension back on it, and now this comes up. That last drawing has me really thinking hard about changing my plans in mid-stream, tinksdad. It looks like a mini-sheep camp. I wonder if you'd be so kind as to share the SKP file with me?

I think on the "Conestoga", I would turn it 180 degrees on the trailer and eliminate the porch. Add a step instead that could act as a rear bumper.

That's the way I'm thinking of doing it. Along with adding the rounded portion on the front to cut down on wind resistance.

And I would love to get a copy of SKP file on the Conestoga, too, please sir.

Do we have a place/room on the server for user generated SKP files? Seems like it would be a nice addition as there are so many talented folks out there designing now. Just me $.02...

Ok why couldn't you do something like this 1936 Bolus with more of the boat prowl look on the Foamstream?

Seems like it would be a lil easier to get than the more rounded end and be more airodynamic.

Just my 2 cents.

they can be saved to the Google 3d warehouse for others to use - some do not want to publish their work - That's a personal choice - But i don't mind contributing to someone else's project ;) I'm almost certain that's my
rendering of a harbor freight trailer ;)
