Kingsford is pretty good, I still use it for my DO.
I do more smoking than grilling, so I picked on charcoal out, and only use that. Switching brands and types means I have to adjust my game plan too much.
Lump is even more unpredictable for a long smoke. Although, you can't beat lump for a high heat grilling of a prime piece of ribeye. Yum.
For smoking, I use Kingsford blue bag and my wood chunks, because I know it. No guessing.
