What's It Called?

Postby rebapuck » Mon Aug 08, 2011 11:58 am

Every time I park the Puck, I get a flat spot on the solid rubber jockey wheel. I have several flat spots around the wheel now. I think I should store the trailer with that wheel up, but I need to prop the tongue on something. What's that something called?

Is there any way to fix a flat spot in a solid rubber tire?

You could use any cheap automotive bottle jack, or those cheap aluminum leveler jacks, just drop your tongue down onto it while retracting your wheel.

Personally, I'd be afraid of damaging the wheel further by trying to make it better, but that's just my luck with things like that.

We always put the stabilizer jacks down in the front to support the tongue. Whenever we use the jack to "jack up" the front for any reason, it always puts a lot of weight on the tongue and visibly twists it - temporarily. I've always been afraid of the tongue twisting permanently from the weight so once we get it to the height we want it, we set the stabilizer jacks and relieve the pressure on the jack and the tongue.

This happens whether we are camping or we are parking it in the driveway.

RE: Front A-Frame Jack

Postby mezmo » Mon Aug 08, 2011 4:35 pm

Hi rebapuck,

Why not use an auto jack stand? Plenty of weight capacity and if you
keep one in/with your regular trailer gear it might come in handy for some
other use when not being used for the front in place of the wheeled jack.

Maybe you could find one/some cheap at a yard sale or such.

Cheers,

I did use a bottle jack once. It slowly depressed so wasn't useful.

I do have steadies on all four corners. That could work as the weight would be carried by the axle and wheels.

I've seen a set of the aluminum stands on eBay. 4 for about $30. If one got pinched, I'd have a replacement.

I can move the Puck with no problem, so a dolly wouldn't do.

Thanks for the replies.

All else fails Judy get just a plain automotive jack stand. take the jack higher than where you want then lower it down on a plain jack stand and let take the weight. I use one to do that when I'm working under the tear on mine.

Hi Judy,

I made a lightweight tongue stand for our LG 6 Wide using plumbing parts. I strolled the Home Depot plumbing isle until all the parts came together. The base of the stand is a 'floor drain fixture', the center, a 2" ABS pipe cut to any length you require and not glued in. The top is a 2" PVC pipe cap ground to the shape of my 2" hitch ball.

It has taken all the weight I throw at it and it easily breaks down for storage! Just use your imagination and save your money for things you can't build  .

You can weight the base with small rocks or gravel as pictured if desired.

Hope that helps and gives you some ideas,

Clyde

I wanna hang a map of the world in my house. Then I'm gonna put pins into all the locations that I've traveled to. But first, I'm gonna have to travel to the top two corners of the map so it won't fall down.

Have you tried a jack wheel dock? Looks like a donut with a beveled hole, that might help with the flat spots. Do you plan to use the tongue riser while in storage or while camping as well? If its just a storage at home type thing a cynder block is a quick and cheep alternative, maybe like $3.
