Maiden Voyage/Gone campin' - Weekender for 5

Postby Alfred » Tue Aug 09, 2011 2:33 am

Hey Gang,

Not finished, but camp-able! We passed a milestone this weekend, with our first camping trip in the "Weekender for 5" to Myrtle Beach State Park. It was an adventure, and a lot of fun, and a good time was had by all!

All plugged in - ain't she purty?

A flock of Flamingos were oddly drawn to the camper

Told my boy to catch 'em as they taste like chicken

Hey Shadow Catcher,

The kids loved it - Wife perceived it as a vast improvement over tent-camping, if not quite a motel. Although it was still tight with 5 of us, it was workable. The bunk worked well. Myrtle Beach State Park is great, a really nice campground. We got to the park later than anticipated, and it was nice not needing to set up a tent and camp, but essentially plug it in and make the beds.

It was very hot, with the temperature at Myrtle Beach in the upper 90's. I am looking forward to camping next trip in slightly cooler weather, maybe in the Fall.

AL:thumbsup:

I have never stayed in the state park in myrtle Beach just Pirate land cg.
But we have driven through the SP it did seem very nice.
If you don't have one I'll bet an AC would make those 90 degree days more comfortable.
nice camper.

Good job Al,

That was a long time in coming. Your kids are a lot bigger now than when we designed it. But you had fun, eh, even though it's a little bit tight.

Your expansion plans could consist of a small dome tent for the older kids to sleep in, while you, the wife and the youngest sleep in the trailer.

Or when the kids are all grown up, you can take out the bunk and just the two of you go camping.

Glad to see you finally made it out. I love to see people persevere and do what they started out to do!

Mike...

P.S. I've never camped at Myrtle Beach State Park. I've always stayed at Ocean Lakes Family Campground. We did drive through Myrtle Beach state park the last time we were there, and it's a nice campground!!!

P.P.S. How did it tow?

Congratulations on camp-able!

Have you done any more on the beach chair?

I, too, have been to PirateLand many times.

Good deal, I will be willing to bet the kids will shortly want their own accommodation (tents work great). I can assure you from the context of now having grown children who are having their own children, these memories and experiences will stick with them.
Nancy and I tent camped for 30+ years and having the teardrop means she now has a vacation because the cleanup and prep of meals is no more than at home.

Ahh yes, I remember the no-fender days! You got it right though, once it is campable then it's time to camp!!!

Unless it is almost 100 with FIVE people! You must be a close family! Sounds like a great opportunity to give the kids those great memories of tent camping haha...

It looks great though and congratulations on the maiden voyage!!

RE: First Trip

Postby mezmo » Tue Aug 09, 2011 11:26 pm

Hi Alfred,

Congrats on your first trip. The Weekender For 5 looks great in situ!

I feel for you camping in the heat down here! I'm staying inside in the
AC until it at least cools down here to the mid 80s - mid 70s. I can't
take the heat anymore!

Your's was one of the first builds I saw and followed when I joined the
forum. It's great to see you now deem it camp-able. Now it's just down
to corralling all those pesky final details for finishing. Good luck with
all that. You've made a great family memory maker there!

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo
