Backyard camping

Postby SonofT@B » Wed Aug 24, 2011 5:56 am

What with the costs of gas and campgrounds today not to mention the effort to
load up everything just to unload when we get to the campground Jackie and I
have experimented with backyard camping this last week.

Our lot is almost an acre and we have woods on the side and back and a privacy
fence on the other side so we decided to try backyard camping again. It has been
very hot here in Atlanta and we had a cool evening tonight. We cooked out and
even had s'mores for desert. Last Friday we slept in the T@B with the two Shi Tzus.

This "campground" is private and cheap and we enjoyed it as much as the two
campgrounds closest to us and we got great gas milage. We ran the Coolcat,
watched HD TV, and even used the Kurig coffee maker in the morning and connected
water for washing up.

While we are very familiar with the sights here we didn't get bored...but I must
admit I still miss the beach!

PS: MY wife says we should call it "yamping" for "yard camping"...I like that!

We've done this. When the kids were younger, especially - I'd set-up the tent in the back yard and we would make s'mores in the outdoor fire place. Read 'em a book and put in the tent. Then, middle of the night, get thirsty or need to visit the necessary room, just walk in the house and come back out, as needed. The lids loved it. In fact, we really ought to do it again soon.

We've also camped places close to homes. When you're at a camp close to home, you can say geez lets go to the walmart and get a loaf of bread or more beverages,

Fun to camp most anywhere!

I think yamping would be my favorite kind. Unfortunately, I'm in a townhouse and don't have a private yard. But I don't have to mow the grass either.

The neighbors say they think I'm living in the SideKick since I've been spending so much time in it with my customizations, so it sure wouldn't matter if I did spend the night in it. Yamping sounds like a good idea.

Hummm, maybe then I could find out what wild animal ('coon, 'possom or fox) is turning on the motion sensor lights at 11 pm every night

That would be the animal that you really don't want to meet. Skunk

My wife went to let the dog out in the yard one night, not realizing there was a skunk looking through porch door. The dog and wife both got a face full of Skunk Spray. took weeks to get the smell out of the house.

Looks like a great yamping stay. You've got everything you need right there and if you don't just walk a few yards.

Just look out for your neighbor's sprinkler system (I learned that the hard way).

My new land (3.5 ac) has a completely unimproved acre parcel completely wooded across the creek. I will be clearing out this area to be a mini campground for myself and gatherings. Still at home but far enough away to be "away"... Gonna be great...

Thomas,

I dream about having my own campsite for private weekend camping and group camping. I really would love something not to far from home. Having a stream on the property might be nice, lol. I'll keep dreaming. Enjoy your little piece of heaven.

Tom , we've got 5.5 ac in a hardwood forest , plenty room to do all kinds of backyard camping , and NO BEARS !!! :D We have a deal with friends in other states , they can camp here if need be , we can camp there ... especially HANDY during Hurricane season ... We're always ready to camp out in someone else's backyard this time of year ...

a while back , an friend from Indy came by with his BIG MC... Pulled right in , hooked up and he even was able to access my wireless puter'... ... not exactly "camping "
