Since this popped again I see a problem with any kind of latches.

Since your hinges are above the level of your spars. Not sure if this was by design to give the supports a little bit more support but hinged in that way you are going to have issues.

If it were me, I'd go back to the broomstick and install a universal joint coupler on a dowel (broomstick) and then a short dowel inserted into a block mounted on the galley lid. There are a ton of places which have them with up to a 1" bore. You can get a double if the articulation isn't far enough on a single.

This would allow you the small amount of side to side moevment in order to install clips on the lid like Woodbutcher.
