Miss Bonnie I took my first Dulcimer lesson today, we have a festival this coming sept. 17 here in Ohio I may or not go sounds like fun.

The dulcimer is a great instrument! If you haven't found them already, http://www.everythingdulcimer.com/ is a great place to share dulcimer doings.

Go to the festival. Even if you just hang out, you'll have fun. :)
Remember, the turtle won. :)

We'll be going to our first gathering at Pocomoke in October with the Chesapeake Bay Tearjerkers. I'm an introvert, and I'm not comfortable in groups, and although I've been camping my entire life, I've always camped with close family. I'm nervous, but I love to camp, and I love our TD.

I have faith that no one will raise an eyebrow if we retire early to read or enjoy a quiet campfire away from the group.

You wouldn't be going if you weren't interested in meeting a few people and checking out their TD's. That's all that's required, as far as I can tell.

It's your vacation, too, slow. You recharge your batteries any way you'd like.

I am starting to think that it would be best to try for cannon city and hold off till the 22 for my trip down there.

I am so busy right now with cows jumping the fence into the oats and my corn. I am about frazzeled out.

sometimes getting a bunch of women that swish tails and eat grass all day to settle down is a big headache espeically with 40 of the buggers!

and all there kids seem to think they can go any where and at age 6 months are invisable.

I have calfs rubbing up against a electric fence with powered with 120 volts and a light bulb.

its one of them wacky times in agirculture last 4 days.

and I have yet to figure out how to calm things down and save 2 acers of corn form hungery grass eaters.

they want to mow me down and leave me a pile of cow manure in exchange!

any ways back to topic! thanks for the shot of courage and I am thinking real strongly of waiting to go to colorado till the end of the month and the 22 and the date of last gasp.

might just be bettor to attend last gasp and hold off on going to colorado till my farm works done.

and I have a lot of sweet corn home grown if I can get it to humans instead of cows.

SLowcowboy.

SOOOOO does this mean that you are coming to The Last Gasp?

Yikes Slow. Didn't think anybody was still using that for an electric fence. Get a fencer and head to the gathering. You will love it. And breath easier about your fence.

I am not anti social just extremely shy

Ask anyone I have camped with !

Really I am.

I can not count the number of folk I have had to bolster up to get them to join us at a gathering. 15 minutes into their first camping experience they knew more people than I did ! You will have a great time !

Bob

p.s. Play dumb and saunter up to the first single gal there and ask her if she would show you how to cook a steak properly. They love being superior to a poor helpless male.

Mike,

I haven't got my camper finished yet (I know Bob, get off my back! lol), but I have already been to a couple of gathering that were "close by" just to have a visit. I was amazed at how many people I "knew" just by looking at there camper and thinking to myself, "oh ya, that's so-and-so's camper, I remember them from the site". And for the most part, you'll remember their screen name but not their real name. Shucks, I even "recognized" folks that were from far off places at the Cross Roads gathering. Took one look at a tear and said "hey, that's WarPony's".

I was nervous too, not knowing what to expect, hey, I mean, I'm a reformed, cleaned up, settled down former biker. Trust me, I know how things can get out of hand. The folks at my 1st gathering (only 50 mi away) made me feel like we'd known each other for years, just like "one of the family". (oh no, I just realized something, am I part of "the mafia" now? Can't stop buildin' now, they'll kill me, or at least have my legs broke! AAAAhhhhh!)
Sorry, back to reality now.

I took my neighbor along with me and we farted around all day at Versailles. No seriously, I mean literally, he talked me into stopping at White Castle on the way and we each got a 6 pack to go. Oh gosh, that part was terrible. I know tmi.

Good luck Mike, you'll fit in just fine! Have a good time!

Sam

Took the tear and glad I did.

It drew a look of attention. As did the other 2 I camped with. We gave lots of tours and told people of the forum

I stayed the whole time. 7 days of "This sure ain't Idaho"

Bring em with ya!

Postby mkitchen » Wed Sep 07, 2011 4:31 pm

Heck Slow, hook the TD to the stock truck and bring them down with you. We can have us one heck of a BBQ and solve all your cow problems in one fell swoop.

I have done my share of buckarooing and I know that it can be a real challenge to get away from the beasts for a while. Are they on summer range or back in the meadows? Sounds like you have them on your property already. Best of luck to ya.

Get going!

Postby nrody » Wed Sep 07, 2011 5:56 pm

Slow, No matter where you live or what you do there is always a reason (and a darn good one) to stick close to home "just in case". Now you just get ya a cow sitter, hook up the tear and git yourself to the gathering. Life is one big adventure and if take your pass, you miss all the fun.
Aint anyone in Slow's neck of the woods nearby to be his travel buddy and see to it he gets there?

This is a funny situation Slowcowboy is a legend on this forum. I was thinking I would be out of place because he was at all the meets.

Slowcowboy you are teardropping to many on this forum. You make us laugh and cry and wonder when the hell you are going to show up with that corn!

Think of it this way slow - if you called a gathering of teardroppers together they would flock to your gathering just to meet you and get your autograph.

It is not a choice for you Slowcowboy. It is your Duty to show up!

Last summer my family and I drove from Colusa CA to the cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. We did 395 south to and through Death Valley and on and on through the Desert. First time for all of us. We saw many wonderous and delightful things in the desert. Somewhere on a long lonely stretch of highway (I think in Utah), nothing for a hundred miles in any direction we saw a guy standing beside a white Ford pickup and he was blowing chunks big time. It seemed odd at the time but now I know why. He was on his way to his first teardrop gathering.
