always try to "educate" new or inexperianced campers politely. if they don;t take the hint,,,,, thats what the park rangers are for.

I'm afraid to say that I've run into a lot of boy scout groups when camping across the US in 1986 (yes a long time ago) that were unruly and rude. It wasn't just one BS group, it was several. I am hoping those days are gone and those types of BS groups rare. I was with a group of folks and we always left the campsites better than when we found them.

Last weekend, we were at a fully-booked state park, and saw the extremes. Across the road from us was a group of three families camping together. One had brought his portable PA system and was playing Credence and Buffett all day, all weekend -- not terribly loud, but noticable from our campsite. Then, in the evenings, they set up the projector and the outdoor theater. That was visually distracting, but not loud. They had the satellite TV and all the toys. Fortunately, they did shut down at quiet time.

I hear what you say about adult-only camp areas, but I would NOT like that. To me, one of the joys of camping in a state park is seeing kids experiencing the outdoors, and discovering the joys of being there. I like to talk with them when we or they wander around. It is the relatively few loud, unruly, undisciplined kids (and, more often, adults) that spoil it. I try to just tune them out, unless they cross "the line", when I will contact the authorities.

your best bet is to come out west and boondock or try dispered camping.

start camping in places other than a campground.

I have never liked camping in camp grounds they are like moving to the city for this country boy.

to me a campground is like a minutre version of a subdivison.

If your feeling chocked by the others bevafore at campgrounds maybee try boondocking or camping in the blm or forest out west where there is no campgrounds.

if I run into your campground problems. I up and jerk camp and move.

even if it means going home to the cow pasture and yamping.

SLow. I tell you even if it is dryed up and not pleasant to look at miles of open sage brush blm country in wyoming would to me beat a campground.

In some parts of the country boondocking is not really an option. Out west you guys have a lot of BLM land you can spend time in away from the crowds. I don't know much about the Northeast or East, but here in Texas we just don't have the option. I've also found more privacy in campgrounds out west as opposed to ones here which help. We try to to pick the less popular ones, nice, just not as popular as some. We've experienced very few inconveniences as pointed out by the original poster, so guess we have just been lucky.

Times we get away to get away and want the peace and quiet of the great outdoors and other times just out to enjoy others, including the kids. We tend not to spend great amounts of time in camp anyway, usually out walking the trails, biking, canoeing or catching attractions close to the area.

We are a product of our development !

I remember leaving a face imprint in the front seat when my dad caught me tossing junk out the back seat window of the moving car. As the car came to an abrupt halt I was order to retreive what ever was tossed.

As a scout we cleaned side ditches as a work project. That gives you a real good grasp of the tons of trash at the side of the road.

Our Scout Master was a stickler at training us in the "Leave it better than ya found it" rule.

On our picnic outings I can not count the number of times mom "requested" we pick up our site, the fact that it was there when we arrived was not accepted as a excuse to ignore it.

The very last thing I do before pulling out is walk the site and look it all over. ( It has helped me keep track of my camping hammer, it always seems to be hiding in the weeds)

I have to hand it to the Indiana State run parks. They are well monitored and well maintained. I have seen only a couple of annoying incidents in our 40 - 50 outings.

It seem that with our Tearjerker gatherings everyone is extremely courtious and are like my mom and will clean it up even if it isn't our mess.

I have repaired wobbly picnic tables and extinguished roaring fires after the campers pulled out but it was just the way I was raised.
Growing older but not up !
