When I had pickups (Chevy s10s), I always got a silver cap for the bed where the dog crates traveled. My first pickup (the VW - a rabbit in truck drag) came with a silver cap that seemed to keep things in the bed much cooler. Over 15 years I had black, teal green and red s10s, and all of them looked great with the silver cap.
But the most important thing...I put a thermometer in bed, and the interior temp in the silver capped bed was *always* 10-12 degrees F. lower than the temp in the cab. It was lower even when the cab windows were completely open and I had a sunshade on the cab windshield. When the cap windows and cap-gate were open/raised, the temp in the bed dropped to 15-20 degrees F. lower than the temp in the cab. Cool or heat-shielded is very important to me in a vehicle, so I stuck with silver for caps regardless of truck color.
