Ron,
I'd suggest that you just keep an eye on eBay for a while and see what comes along, what you're seeking is offered more frequently than you may expect! There is actually a camp stove sub-category on eBay, see category path below:
Sporting Goods > Outdoor Sports > Camping & Hiking > Cooking Supplies > Stoves
There are generally about 4,000 camp stoves for sale on eBay at any given time so I search for "antique" or "vintage" in the camp stove category and that seems to pare down the search results to a more manageable level.
I got my '46 Kit back in July and since then I've been able to acquire a Model 395 3-burner hot plate and a Model 391A 2-burner hot plate via eBay. Both of mine were produced post-war, but both were cataloged pre-war as well. Keep your eyes open and what you're after will come along sooner or later!
Another option that would be "period correct" for you is one of the old Griswold cast iron propane stoves:

The stoves are pretty easy to come by, but finding a PC propane cylinder will likely be something of a challenge...
BTW: could you post a photo of the Hayes Crusader Deluxe? I couldn't find anything with my quick search.
