General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Slow:

I am trying to arrange time off so I can spend more than a week out there since it is three very long days of driving for me to get there. Personally, I'm ok with vault toilets, and lack of amenities, but I suspect there would be a much better turn out if you could find a campground with electric and hot showers, etc.

I just received my Wyoming Tourism book last night, and made it about half way through. It's hard to find an area in Wyoming that isn't beautiful. I was originally planning on staying put once I got there, but now think I'll tour around in the week I'm there.

So, start the count at (1) from New Jersey!

I hear ya Slow. I remember in the 70's when the family took a ride so we could all take showers when we were out there in Gros Ventre campground. But it was about a ten step walk to the back of our campsite to get some beautiful pictures of the mountains.

Or this one! lol... sorry, they all look so nice to me compared to NJ, and where I camp here is really nice, just can't compare to real mountains.

There is a nice campground with hookups just south of Yellowstone and north of the Tetons. The name escapes me now as it's been three years since I was there. It is on the main highway between Yellowstone and Jackson Hole just south of Yellowstone.
I have wisdom beyond my years. In fact, I'm nearly senile.

Perhaps. It depends on gas prices and huckleberry ripeness.

That Fremont Lake looks like some of our eastside country.

Hi all, I have been working with Mike to find a place. I talked to the Ranger District office in Pinedale yesterday. New Forks is the best recommendation they had. I asked about Fremont and they have that scheduled to be remodeled so it will most likely not open for 2012. I spent about 4 hours researching the mountain area near Yellowstone and the Tetons. Most things I found were small, very few had electric and showers except KOA types. They were expensive and not very private. If Partaxer can come up with the name of the one they stayed at we could check it out.
If anyone else has a recommendation, let er fly. This is a work in progress but we need to move sort of fast. August is peak camping time in Wyoming. As for me I plan on spending a couple of weeks total on this trip. Anyone that wants to hook up along the way is welcome. I plan on hitting a Jeep Jamboree in Dayton WY. The week after this. With time in between in Yellowstone and the Tetons.

I'm planning on a two week trip, so after driving, I'll have maybe 10 days in Wyoming. I'd like to check out Devil's Rock, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, and I'm sure I'll find some more as I go through my Wyoming Travel package.

You may not want to rule out KOA. They offer showers, flush johns! Power, wifi, Pavilions, locations, and may work with you on an area for the group. Maybe even a group discount?

I could do without the KOA's

It sounds like a nicer spot can be had from a Forest Service camp. I would rather a pretty site without services than camping in the RV types.

Go ahead and count me in for the August gathering. At this time, I am not sure of time off but I am writing the time into my calender.

Would love to head out and get re-acquainted with WY, Slow, but can't do it this summer (2012's dance card is already full!), and the dates you have proposed will probably conflict with Speed Week on the Bonneville Salt Flats. I'll cross my fingers for next year, 'cause I really want to show Kay some of my old stomping grounds out there ... ...!

When you get everything firmed up, let me know and I'll post the info on my DESTINATIONS! Page - http://www.teardrops.net/destinations01.html

Good Luck with it, and as always ...

Will put it on my calendar and paln on it, but can't make any guarentees. Will just throw this one out as an idea, a pasture, rent porta-potties, a set time for generator usage. Porta potties rental could be offset by a minimal registration fee, jsut a thought.

We don't need no showers if there is a lake there. :)

It's a possiblity. I intend to visit family in Nebraska and Wyoming is right next door.

How many days should the camp gathering be? I would say a long weekend of 3 or 4 days usually works for most people.
