Yep, my paint stand is a dowel, but I attached them to some scrap plywood, and set in on my saw horse to pain. Worked out very well.



Saw this valve wrench on ebay.......might be an option for those hard to get valves

Looks a lot like an oxygen sensor socket, maybe that would work just as well. or make one out of a cheap 1/2" drive socket.

The only font I have removed to date, I just clamped the valve assy. with a rubber pad into a vise and turned the font with a strap wrench. No marks what so ever. The tool does looks like a good idea for those doing a lot of
disassembly.

Right now, the air intake won't break free. Gotta get that little piece of work off before I can get any further....but I like the strap wrench idea. My job today is un-Christmasing tha house. Just took the tree out front...looks like I need to do a little rug cleaning...

And I just want to play Coleman today!!!

I guess I'll treat this like my trailer build thread. If you all don't mind.

I stripped the old paint, repainted it, cleaned up the brass parts and the cage. I used the VHT paint on the cage in order to get the clean look I was after. I am letting it cure a bit, then I'll add the new sticker to the fount. After the sticker is on, should I shoot it with clear-coat or is a good wax enough?

Then it will be time to put it back together and pressure test. The fuel tank threads were a little bunged up, I cleaned them as best I could, bought a new cap, hope it seals correctly!

I canned (cannibalized) a direction disc from one of my other 200A lanterns, those buggers are hard to find! Even over on the Coleman board. I hope to come across one soon enough.

My first lantern restoration is complete! A May 1964 (5/64) 200A. Here are a few photos:

I also completed a "tune-up" of the first lantern I purchased, an Oct 54 (10/54) 200A, complete with green letter globe and ceramic burner.

First light up of both lanterns.



These are the first gas powered lanterns I have used since I was in the boy scouts some 30+ years ago! But they won't be the last!!

Well, done Earl....I use a dowel on mine for a stand also. I have a smaller one that I sanded a tapered end on that threads into the top of the fount. I clamp it in a vise after painting. A tire valve stem makes a good plug for the pump tube. Your lantern looks great! They're not that tough to do are they? Doug

Glad to see this thread. I am not a collector, or at least I wasn't until maybe now. Yesterday I was given a red Coleman lantern that was found in an abondoned house. It is a model 200A and after looking it up I discoved that it was made in Sept. 1956. Has 9/56 stamped on the bottom.

Not in real bad shape, some light rust and the ceramic on the top has a couple small chips out of it. Haven't had a chance to try to light it yet but will be using all the info on here about how to make it operate and look better. I think it will be great to use with my teardrop. Thanks to all of you who share the info.

That's my next lantern to attack..right now I'm waiting for the pb blaster to do it's job on the 220f. It's slow, but the nut is working loose. If I had the proper tool, I could probably get it apart very quickly.

My 200a has the air valve..the one you turn a quarter turn to light...stuck. Guys..what do you suggest to fix that. I need a Coleman MD's diagnosis. As far as I can tell, that is the only problem, besides the thing needing a good shooka shooka.

Got 3 lanterns, none work at this moment..newest one spits fuel from the burner assembly..pumped it and the tube is wet. Dangit!
