Hi from Eugene, Oregon

Hi all... I just bought a 2007 trailer, and am completely new to the world of teardrop trailers. My trailer is super basic, so I am looking to customize it to suit me. High on the list is repainting it... but the first thing to do is get a new battery and install the new door latch I had to buy as the one that came with mine doesn't work. I have spent the week buying a lighted roof vent, sleeping bags (have not yet measured the interior to get a mattress or egg crate foam or some other type of comfy sleeping area), a tow hitch for my car, chairs and dishes and a covered 10x10 pop up gazebo. I plan on taking it out next weekend to see how me and my two pups fare - of course, I am going to an rv resort that I have visited before in case I fail to bring enough food (there's a restaurant and a pool and a hot tub there, so it's just "kinda' like camping). I look forward to the new can of worms I opened regarding teardrop camping.... so far it's been an expensive week of "camping on the cheap." I will post pictures on the first available sunny day, this being Oregon, I am guessing that will be sometime in June. 8)

Or possibly July..... 8)
Welcome to the madness from your neighbor to the north. Someone else from Eugene joined a few days ago. I grew up there, many years ago.

I started out with something VERY basic, essentially a shell. No power or anything like that, but I'm having a blast customizing it to my liking.

Hi Maureenm!

I am going to preface my response with "I am a girl" that's my standard excuse, as it were. I forgot to mention, I have absolutely NO mechanical skills, whatsoever! I envy all you guys that custom build your trailers, I am going to have to get pretty creative with the desire fulfillment department and try to be somewhat reasonable with whatever modifications I attempt to make on my new toy. I am a female Tim "the toolman" Taylor, but worse than him! My TT has 12 volt interior lights, and one, maybe two 110 outlets and a surge protector looking power strip in the cabin. I bought a roof vent that has a light on it on ebay the other day, so hopefully I am covered in the light department (when my friend installs it) he mentioned we have to cut a hole in the roof and after I put my hands over my ears and sang "la la la, I can't hear you" he said, 'never mind the details, it'll be a cinch" we'll see. :?

It has a sink in the back, but that's it and a plug that I guess you can plug into a hook up at an rv sight but I don't think it'll make the interior lights work, just the 110 plugs. The battery that came with it is shot, according to my friend who has a charger/tender thingie.... so a battery is on the list of things to get before next weekend. I dunno'.... I am kind of overwhelmed right now.... trying to look at pictures of other people's trailers online to see what they have and get ideas on what I want. Thank goodness I do not have to register it with the DMV, but I have to call my insurance agent tomorrow (I did not even think of insuring it until I saw someone else post about it on this forum). Oy.

i think we have all felt overwhelmed some time or another when building or restoring one of these teardrops. some people keep it simple when building a teardrop others go nuts at least that what the wife says when i start one of these trailer builds. no matter what you do have fun

Welcome

Just take your time and take a bunch of photos before you take anything apart.

My first tear was UGLY....but still a lot of fun. It was shaped like a gum drop and had painted sides. The prior owner was a furniture builder so the galley was nice but that was it.

Good luck and hope to meet you at one of the local events this summer.
