The software is quite powerful. It should be all you need for a while, and maybe forever.

You might want to pick up something like Paint Shop Pro. Corel owns it now..

But yes, you should be all set, unless the lens bug bites you...

Reddiver: " So I took a picture of a scrap wood project I just finished .. A glue shadow showed in the picture that I hadnt even noticed." Your eyes see what they want to see...the camera will capture what is really there. Neat thing that is!

I took a picture to share but it is two big . I figured how to reload it in a smaller size will do that later ? Typically since I dont want to blow my pics up to poster size what size should I take pictures?

This camera is amazing for being so complicated the menu really makes sense . Pretty straight forward . Having fun figuring stuff out.

Always take your photos at maximum size and resolution. There's a link in the page header "Help with photos" just above that will show you how to reduce them to fit here.

Reddiver, the reason you "Always take your photos at maximum size and resolution" is so that should you decide to crop out some of the stuff you later decide you don't want you will still have the maximum amount of pixels left for the sharpest picture of what you do want to save. If you decide not to crop out anything you can still reduce your picture to the size you do want and have maximum clarity.

Example: This is The Shack taken without the family
Image

This is the same picture of The Shack taken with the family, and cropped down
Image

If I had taken just a small picture of the entire camp site I would not have had enough left to crop a close up of the family and still have good detail.

Ok that makes sense. So if I want to post a picture here should I go into the camera resize and reload it to the computer at the smaller size?
Thanks Jim and all for the help I think now that I have the camera I should start a new thread Photography 101

I don't remember which it was, but I downloaded some powertool to windows that allows you to resize a pic just by right clicking on it. Photobucket also allows you to resize when you upload.

There are a ton of free online tools for editing and cropping. Check out GIMP or Picnik (sp?)

Here's the Forum Help for resizing photos for posting here.

http://www.mikenchell.com/pichelp.html

Mike recommends Irfranview, as do I. It's free, effective, and easy to use.

You're in luck. There are a variety of simple, inexpensive photography apps on the App Store. Check them out.

Rather than spending a fortune on PhotoShop or anything else Adobe, have a look at Pixelmator. You will be amazed at its capability for a tiny fraction of the cost of PhotoShop.

Pixelmator opens in just seconds on the Mac.

You have iPhoto on the Mac and, if you outgrow it, consider Aperture to which you can add plug-ins for even more capability.

Enjoy.
