The SB sure looks great Tom. I know I'm going to see her eventually. Still have fond hopes for BB next spring.

Aggie Tom,

Can tell by your posts that you are a humble fellow.

Tell you what though...any time someone stops by to ask you "Where'd you buy that?" you are allowed to enjoy it when "Built it myself" rolls out your mouth. You did earn that, so don't feel guilty. She's a beaut.

Tom, saw your TD in the class of 2011 and knew I had to see the build. Will read through as time allows...it's amazingly well crafted.

Inspiration

Postby mtrmth » Mon Jan 09, 2012 10:19 pm

Tom,

Your Build and Log have been an unbelievable Inspiration to me and I'm sure others on just what can be done!

Did you come up with your own Profile or modify another one?

Hope you enjoy it.

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thank you for taking a look at my build. If it hadn't been for all of the builds on this forum that inspired me, I never would have been able to build my teardrop.

My teardrop profile is heavily based upon the profiles of the "Three Texas Teardrops" - http://romeonovember.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html.

I was unable to find their dimensions, so I made a few paper sketches before settling on my profile. (My profile is 4' x 10'.) The upper front portion of the profile exactly follows the dimensions of the Trailer for Two in the design library. The lower front is a vertical line ending in a 6" radius. The lower rear portion of the profile is a 10" radius. The sloping curve of the rear portion of the profile falls between the Cub/Modernaire profile and the Grumman profile (also in the design library) and is blended into the 10" rear radius.

I do recommend spending some time sketching on graph paper or using CAD to refine your design before you start.

Good luck with your design. I look forward to seeing it and some sawdust!

Take care,
Tom

Hey Tom,

Would you mind sharing where you picked up that antenna? My stereo is installed, and I will usually be playing music either from my iPod or laptop, but having that option to use the radio sure would be nice. Obviously without an antenna I just get static. Thanks!

Absolutely a beauty! One of the most awesome builds on the board, I really dig the countertop!
“When You're Alone”
When you're in the kitchen, you've got to behave
You don't put metal in the microwave
The knobs on the stove are “hands off” no doubt
And when you make toast, don't use a knife to fish it out!
When you're alone, when you're alone
You got to stay safe when you're home all alone.
When you're alone, when you're home all alone
You got to make sure not to die, or choke or burn the house down.

I have to say that the 10-rule does apply to the SB. It has had several "experience" marks from sitting in the garage. Plus the actual tolerances are a little bigger than is shown by the (thankfully) small resolution photos.

The SB has been sitting outside on the driveway for about a week. I've had the electrical system hooked up testing it. It came through a rain and hailstorm unscathed a couple of days ago, and is now collecting large bird droppings from a neighbor's guinea fowl that likes to roost in the tree in our front yard.

We've been camping in it once without electrical and without cabinets. Our first big trip begins Thursday at the LCG outing in Louisianna. I wish that I had gotten it to this stage to try everything out with a local camp trip first, but it didn't happen. :
Take care,
Tom

Tom my TD is not half the TD yours is. I keep mine indoors where it belongs. Please do the same with your work of art!
