paint

Is there a sticky where we can go to for paint colors for stoves and lanterns? I have seen paint # and brands here and there, but can never find them when I need to paint something or when I am going to Memphis where I can find a color other than John Deer green.

Rustoleum #7738 Hunter Green...Pre-1980 Coleman

Rustoleum #7733 Dark Hunter...1980 and newer.

I've read a couple things on the red for a 200. Apparently there were different shades of red used..the experts here can tell you about this..I don't know if it was all the same paint every year and it faded so people use a tomato red and a more fire engine red depending on what they found..

or if any of it had to do with Canadian vs US made Coleman.

I don't know about the brown or blue Coleman used. Or the gold.

I'm sure other people have other brand suggestions...but this should give you a start.

Here's the paint color info. It's about 2/3 the way down.

Thanks! I was just looking at this and trying to figure out how to post that here!

I was actually looking for a better diagram on how to get my 220F apart...the nut seems maxed out and I've gotta figure out what's holding it together still....flipping thing should be apart..that's what the book says..but it's not. Before I take a rubber mallet to it I want to see what else could be going on here...

not Coleman, and not white gas, but yesterday on the way to get my waffle-less dog iron I found a Century Tool propane lantern model 5600. It's tan and brown..looks like it's in perfect shape. I'll clean it up and grab my Coleman propane tank out of the Grasshopper tomorrow and see if it fits in the base.

Got the lantern for $1.00. It will look really good with the Grasshopper. Looks like the original globe, too. It's a bit interesting in that the mantles don't hang...you put them on upside down.

Just waiting for the fallout from *this* post. I know I ask for it. Just go right ahead. We all need plenty of LOL's! 8)

That's an interesting model of that lantern...by the directions for mantle installation, it's made for the southern hemisphere...a rare one indeed! Can't go wrong for a buck...even if it is ProFane.

I did brakes on the truck today, then tore into the Model 1. I'm so happy....the generator isn't exactly totally trashed. It took about 3 hours to get it completely apart. Lots of soaking in carb cleaner. Very early Colemans have no spring in it, but a series of steel rods that slip in around the central needle. The needle body had separated from the screw portion of the valve body, that's why it just spun and would not seal. I think I managed to save the whole thing. It at least works like it should now. I did a compression type of thing to secure the needle back on the threaded base.
At nearly 90 years old, it would be a tough one to find a new generator for.

This one may be a burner after all...instead of a static display. Doug

Holy smokes!! So can I get my lantern to burn here? I was wondering if the mantles would burn out with gravity pulling them down to the metal screen...

wow...never thought of that lantern being for somewhere so far away...I need to know more. It's really a cool looking lantern.

Nice to hear that the Model 1 is going to fire again. Displays are nice, but that generally means they are 'broken' somehow. It's awesome when something so old can work again. Then it's up to the owner if they want to use it or just fire it to keep it going.

The more I learn about stuff like Coleman and CI, the more I realize things just aren't made like they used to be. And that is a bad thing. I'm going more and more back to basics..it's just better.

Did all my cooking in CI today. That stuff is unbeatable. I'm wondering why anyone ever changed!

I do just about all of my cooking on cast iron. Most of it was my Grandmas. If taken care of it's the best non stick there is.

My Dad had CI, Mom had CI...but somewhere along the line it was deemed 'unhealthy' in the 80's or 90's and Mom stopped using it...My dad died in'79 at 37, so maybe that had something to do with it...

ok, not funny, but people stopped using CI. Non-stick was "better" or "modern"..even though the fumes kill pet birds (doesn't that say something right there??)

As an adult I got non-stick cookware...but always knew Mom's CI griddle was the bomb at making pancakes..esp. sourdough. Things even have more flavor with CI. And I don't mean they taste like Iron. I think they get cooked more evenly and better..and it preserves the original flavor.

I think our ancestors were on to something with the CI..it was all they had, but it was the best. My Mom's Mom was the one who got the crazy idea that new stuff was better, and T-fal was king when it came out..but studies show that the chemicals are really not good for us, and can cause cancer...I'm not sure anyone ever got cancer from cooking in CI.

I plan on being here a long time just to jerk everyone's chain, so I'm switching to CI when I can

No non-stick in my house! Buford, the parrot, is part of the family and over-heated non-stick will kill him. Most people say they would never boil dry a pan or leave an empty one on a live burner, but um.. I have done that to my CI tortilla pan by accident a few days ago. I was hungry!! I blame it on low blood sugar.

Someone gave me that CI flat round pan that was moderately rusted. Cleaned right up. It's the perfect size to saute a handful of onion and green/red pepper slices and cook 2 eggs over easy - throw sauteed veggies on plate, sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on them and then throw eggs on top. Voila! Egg blob!! My specialty. It also toasts two pieces of bread nicely in butter for the best grilled cheese sammich EVER.

I had won 2 8" skillets I planned to use camping and a 11" for home on fleabay, but I am in love with the rough flat tortilla pan. It's probably an unnamed Lodge. I figure by the time I'm 100 yrs old it might be smooth from cooking LOL. I think Wagner made a square flat pan and tried to bid on a few at one time, but they got away.

Hugs,
