Coleman Keepers Campfire come on in!

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Postby doug hodder » Sun Jan 15, 2012 9:19 am

I just fired up the 371 and cooked in the appropriate vintage Griswold cast iron. It's no longer a virgin stove now! Over on the Coleman forum, there is a weekly cook off using the choice of main ingredient from the previous weeks winner. This week it was potatoes...I did spuds O'Brien, sausage and an egg for breakfast. Doug

I do just about all of my cooking on cast iron. Most of it was my Grandmas. If taken care of it's the best non stick there is.

We are an all CI family, with the exception of baking sheets and sauce pans. There are days I worry that that corner of the kitchen just might start to sink. We have skillets, corn stick pans, biscuit pans, waffle irons, and some things that I know I am missing. We love it and havent ever had to replace one, like we did when we were using non-stick. That leads to one of the coolest aspects of CI. my boys are growing up eating food prepared in the same pans I did, since I asked for mom's skillets when she passed away. And unless something happens, my great great grandchildren with still be eating food cooked in them.

My most unusual CI is a Lodge wok. It is one of the earlier ones they made. I have had it since new in about 1985 or so. It makes a nice egg fryer, I have a set of bamboo steaming trays that i steam vegies in. I really like it during fresh corn time. That is also the closest it has ever come to being cleaned is when I steam in it. Has not killed me yet.

I have 2 medium and 2 small fry pans, and 2 stove waffle irons. I do not often take the wok with me. But it is good for winter time traction.

Not much time for fun lately but I did sneak out to a bootfair and got a few things. I got an aluminum Coleman stove (kinda rough). I got a pretty good 200a, and a 425D with no tank. No time for pics . See ya.

Its time to focus. I have been hording Coleman stuff like a crack addict in the ghetto. I cant collect it all so I want to see if any of you Coleman heads who are going to the Dam Gathering are bringing any thing to trade.

I am bringing this KampKook stove and want to trade for a lantern.

I have alot of other stuff I will bring if you all are into trading. I will tell you that I paid very low prices for most of my stuff so I will pass on the good deals.

I have decided that I really like the older 425s. Lanterns are really my thing anyway.

I have some bigger stoves that I fixed or painted and will be purging those as well.

I will be bringing this stove as well. Its a 413 that I fixed up. I dont want money I just want to trade for Coleman or AGM lanterns and stuff.

It is a pretty 413, but I have a pile of them, non near that pretty. And I am not going to that gathering.

:(

Maybe someday I will restore something instead of just getting it running again. But at least I do not fear using my stuff.

I agree Randy , "No shelf Queens!" Thats what I say.

I just fix them for fun, but use them I will. However I do use prophylactics on my tanks, I just cant help it.

I decided to post another light up since it's been quiet around here.
I got this 237 on ebay from Canada. It came bent over at a15 degree list and had dents in the tank. I emailed the seller, he refunded all of my money and told me to keep the lantern.
Being the "I can fix anything" type. I took it all apart straightened the founts best as I could did the BB shake, nickle polish, etc...
So here she is. My free 237 Kerosene lantern. This is my first keresene lantern and my be my last.. Lighting it was quite an experience.
