Motorcycle teardrop

I travel around the USA on a Honda Goldwing. Last summer I was on the road for 3 months and traveled 13,000 miles. I realized that a cargo trailer would make my life easier, but being retired, I didn't want to pay $3,000 or more for a trailer. I was at a hot rod show and saw a few teardrop trailers behind hotrods and thought that it might be fun to build one to tow behind my bike.
I took one of the plans on this site and am building to 1/2 scale. I'll post photos as I go. Thanks for all the helpful info.

Welcome aboard, JV. So your plans are to make it 4 ft long, if I understand your post correctly. If you could add a 2 ft tip-out, you could probably have a cozy little unit that you can sleep in when on your extended trips. I know it works, I built a TD that is only 3 ft long and I cook, eat and sleep in it. Good luck on your build. Take pics, we love pics.

Before you get too far, you might want to stop in and look at the Foamie build topic farther down the list. The original thought that started the thread was thrifty and light. Certainly two things you seem to need. The thread has taken a lot of turns here and there and some are getting quite exotic, but light and thrifty is a constant for a lot of us Foamlings. Stop by and take a look around. I believe there is a thread about a motorcycle trailer in there somewhere. If you don't find it, ask around and we'll be glad to reply. We're a friendly bunch and our moderator Louella doesn't let us get too far out of hand. :D :) :D :)

I have built 2 and the second is by far the best. Weighing in at 530 pounds it is well within the capabilities of the Goldwing.

Here is a link to the build......http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=38489

I had trouble logging in, so I went ahead and built my trailer. I used the Ultralight plans and scaled them down by 50%.
The frame is all wood except for the tongue. I was going to build a Woodie and made the sides from 2 sheets of 1/4 in plywood.
The second layer was to cover the screws & such. After reading many posts about having to varnish over & over,
I decided to cover it with aluminum. As you will see from my photos, it came out nicely.
The trailer is 4 ft long, 33 inches wide, and 26 inches from the floor to the top. Don't know what it weights yet, but I can pick it up
by myself.
I have all my photos posted on Facebook
and when I figure out how to post them here, I will.
