computer interface with battery monitor

Postby Shadow Catcher » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:40 pm

I am in the process of deciding which battery monitor to buy and one of the deciding questions may be the computer interface. Both the Victron BMV 600S and the Trimetric use an RS232 communications interface which I already have for my Morningstar controller and while I am assuming I will have to down load software which both Bogart and Victron have, I am hoping that I can use my interface with either unit. The Clipper battery monitor does not seem to have any computer interface or it would be a contender.

S.C. I see you have a USB/SERIAL converter, but for others....

IF you "computer" does not have a RS-232 interface (most new don't) you can use a USB to RS-232 converter to interface older design RS-232 interfaces through computers the only have USB ports....

Only difficulty is to get software programmed to what is correct COM PORT NUMBER, as USB devices tends to assign what ever COM PORT may be available on what seems to be a "random" pattern (on bootup or USB insertion) ...
