Hello threadies!![]()
Cold and rainy at the doghouse. I'm fine with that. The primary lake my town draws water from is only 5 feet low, which is much better than the 16 feet low it was on January 1.
I just put my tow vehicle up for sale. I will miss it terribly, but my extended warranty is running out, and the cost to extend it more is just too high. Owning a twin turbo, all wheel drive, height-adjustable air suspension vehicle with no warranty is just too risky. My dad made me a killer offer on his (boring) Volvo XC-70. So, it looks like I'll be a 50-year-old Volvo driver.![]()
The silver lining is that the car he is buying is badass. I call first dibs when he sells it.![]()
My dad is buying this car as an 80th birthday present to himself. I've been encouraging him to go balls out. He is still a very capable driver, but that can change, so my advice to him is go for the gold on this car. It is entirely possible this could be his last car, so go ahead and get that loaded, Supercharged Audi A6. Spend some of my inheritance on the kind of car you've always wanted.
My dad is a very frugal millionaire. But, every now and then, he listens to me, the art major. He bought the boat I told him to buy, and LOVED it. He has been borrowing my cars to go to the store for years, when I visit, because "they were parked behind his car."
He's been talking to me on a regular basis on this new car, since I know cars. I love how he is actually being a little bit like me. His hidden caseydog is coming out.![]()
My dad is old. My wish for him is to live well until he dies. That's what I hope everyone does, whether they live to 80, 100, or only to 40. Live well until you die.
CD
yes Live well until you die...how ever that may be for you.
I am glad your father is still able to.... and able to buy a nice car and enjoy it. While everything about it was on a much lower scale.. I remember Laurie talking about her mother, wondering if she should buy a new car.... she was elderly but still could safely drive..Her other car was getting old... she had the money.. why the heck not.
My mother is smart with her money.. but not overly frugal.. she is in her later 70's and will be heading to Bonaire next month on a Scuba diving trip...![]()

Sunny and cool in the high 60s for the day here in Orlando. Nice cold front with lots of wind...is it March yet?
Had a good day at work with the cooler temps.
Casey, did you get Dad one of those fancy cars that you take pictures of?
Make it a great day where you are.

We have someone doing some logging at a neighbor's.. they rudely woke us up in the middle of the night.. It was 2:45AM when I looked at the clock!!! They had at least 5 pieces of equipment running at full tilt.. one a HUGE Chipper grinding up softwood and crap.. for biomass boilers. It is loud enough in the daytime.. I have to turn up the TV to hear it.. so needless to say it is rather loud at 2:00 when you are trying to sleep. I am in an underground house.. so I am somewhat insulated from such sounds.. so imagine what it is like for some of my other neighbors. I went up.. and gave the guy in charge hell.. while my wife called the Police...
It was bad enough last week when they woke us just before 5:00. Police had been at another neighbors.. and we incorrectly assumed it was about the noise.
The officer told me they were shutting it down.. I was not sure what that meant.. but all they did was shut off the chipper...and while that is the noisiest..the rest of the equipment is still plenty loud.
Well later in the day my wife talked to the Police Chief [my cousin] ..If they wake me tomorrow.. we are to call the Police again.. and they will be summonsed and fined...
I have been sooo tired and out of it all day .. that I have not gotten much of anything done...

Now that sucks big time! Too bad that some of us are so rude to visiting alien sheep impersonators!
