why don't the red circles turn to blue circles?

They're biased against the blues

When red circles turn to blue circles they become purple circles.

Probably because somebody posted something else in the thread after you looked at it.

When you get done with what you want to see and you're ready to logout, go to the Board Index page, and, in the upper right corner, you will see a command:

"Mark all forums read"

Click on that and every circle should turn to blue. Then, the next time you log on, the only circles that will be red will be the ones that have had updates.

My main problem is the red circles are too thin and not obvious to those of us ( usually guys) with less than good color vision. The old forum had this big honking yellow blob in the middle which made unread posts very obvious. Unless I look closely I do not see the difference between the thin blue and thin red circles.
Now I check the dates and work my way back to the top. this works but is not efficient.

You could always try the subsilver3 theme. It's not updated for the gallery yet, but it will be soon.

Uses to work on older versions of phpbb (ver 2.x) guess in zeal for phpbb to upgrade to ver 3.x, they did away with feature...

Mow you are talking. I did not know that was an option.
For the color challenged folks. click on User Contol Panel
Select Board Preferences
Down the page is y Board Style
Select Sub Silver3

The yellow blob is back

Good IMO, that's a really annoying feature.

That, for me, was the very worst part of the old board, actually the only bad thing at all.

Can't tell you how many times I hit the back button, or strayed, or for whatever reason "left" for a moment, and lost all the unread posts.
Very frustrating.
