Going to the RV show last weekend I can say there is a wow factor. there were hundreds of RV Tent trailers buses 5th wheels and everyone has almost the same glazed look at the big toys. but when they look at a 5 wide or the silver shadow there was definate intrest at looking at something different. there isnt much of that in the show room. ontop of it the tears were in the accesory part of the show.

Were they accessories for the really big RV's? Or shown as "how the 99%'ers travel".

When we camped down at Port Saint Joe in Florida last year, we got quite a few funny looks and even a scoff from an old couple that were staying next to us in a trashed pop-up.

The camper is still unfinished, and the outside looks like this:

It's quite an eyesore so far, but despite some funny looks, we had just as many people asking what the heck I had just pulled into the lot, and even a couple of people wanting tours (even though the interior wasn't finished at all! Even though my standie is far more of an RV than a teardrop, my experience has been there are more people doing this:  than doing this: :x

It was in the area where the vendors were at like the solar panel or the state trailer outlet. Where the jelly and jams and dips jerky vedors.

That is not a large keychain dear its a trailer.

when I was taking my TD to work, I got lots of interested stares on the highway, at work in the parking lot I got quiet a few people to walk all the way to the back where I was parked just to look at it, and many slow cruise by's or even a couple passes. quite a few people I work with thought it was a cargo trailer until I told them. the only snide comments were when it was parked at wallyworld, and even then it was always young stupid kids, the kind with fart pipes on their civics and baloney skin tires and supper thumping bass...

On a few very rare nights I've had to spend in a campground on my way to backpacking/canoeing I've used a bivy sack:

Or the next bigger tent that I own:

I've had some nice chats with people who stopped.

Why does size matter?

Did you show this to Glenn? (GPW) He's been talking about rear fins, like what you have on yours...

Thanks !!! I saw it !!! Think it’s really Cool !!!! 8) 8) 8) A little paint and trim would make it more “appealing” ... You know how superficial our Society is (Appearance is Everything ! ) .. So bringing your trailer out unfinished , is like leaving home without your pants ... :o
It’s really a GREAT shape , aerodynamic , practical and easily constructed out of my favorite material ... Foam :R
There’s no place like Foam !

I don't have a TD,YET! I have camped for years in my Panel trucks(not a van) and have had people look at me like the original poster commented. It used to bother me,but I'm so much better at being "me" now that I don't mind.I figure everyone has their "thing" if they can't understand mine then I'm ahead of them because I understand they have a "thing".As far as being blocked in by a "Coach",I would just call for a tow,Semi-wreckers ain't cheap and I'll bet it don't happen again.

Now that I will be towin my Puck all over, I'm lookin forward to the "nickle " tours. Gonna hafta make one a them signs.. Nickle tours, free today !

Re: Anybody else get attitude from rv-ers

Postby Roly Nelson » Wed Apr 04, 2012 2:48 pm

On my first time out, while the varnish was still wet, I stopped at an RV park and slipped into a spot between two monster rigs. I had hardly lifted the galley hatch when my "new neighbor" walked up, crossed his arms and asked what "that thing is called"? I told him it was a teardrop camping trailer, and he asked if he could open the door and look inside. I told him he could, if he would answer one question for me. "Yeah, what's that, he says". I said, "When was the last time a perfect stranger asked you if he could open the door of your motorhome and take a look inside?" He said it has never happend, and at that, I told him to help himself, open my door and check out the interior. I think I got my point across, letting him know that us 'little trailer folks", are friendly to all that ask. That's it, it has never happened again. All I usually get is curious on-lookers, long friendly chats and often an invite to share their campfires. As a joke, I have a sign that says, "curious onlookers welcome" and when a bunch arrives, I flip it over to reveal the other side which says, "Go away, leave me alone". It's a great ice breaker and always get's a laugh.
:) 8) Roly ~~

Roly,
Not only do you have a fantastic teardrop collection, but also a wonderful sense of humor. The two-sided sign is genius/ hilarious, and I might think of one similar for my teardrop this summer. Thanks Roly! :)
