The still have an HVAC system, but it runs very little. They heat 2200 square feet with a tiny little wood stove and go through about three cords of wood a heating season.
Biggest problem is controlling mositure. If you do this, make sure you go over board draining water away from teh foundation. It's very easy to end up with humidity problems in an earth contact home.

I would mandate that Berkley live for 3 years under cap and trade; let them see how it would really work. its great on paper but in real life. better yet make it the university of colorado in Boulder, it gets cold there and to save the enviorment all dorms must be set to 60 degrees and have a set limit on the amount of power they can use. they can always buy more credits if they want heat.

Why aren't all treadmills and such connected to a generator? We might as well get a return for all that sweating! Knock the price of the KW generated off of your gym
