Just arrived

Postby BAK61 » Thu Apr 05, 2012 10:20 am

Hi. My name is Bennett, and I just discovered this site. Amazing
I have been looking at videos on youtube, but none really showed how to build a TD.
My wife and I have been considering one of these just for the heck of it, and I'd like to build my own.
Looking forward to spending time here and learning from those who have done it.

take a stroll down to the build journal section and pick out a design similar to yours and follow the build thread some of these are well documented and there is a ton of info.

Let us know where you are geographically and I am sure you will have invites to come and look and maybe even an offer of help to get you rollin'

P.S. welcome to sleepless night up planning and doodeling ideas left and right.

The build is half of the fun.

Thanks. Looking forward to doing something after we move. I love some of the designs in the resource pages. But, I'm in construction and I love to tweak things.
I'm sure I'll have my share of questions.
I see a lot about using the Harbor Freight Trailer, but I like the one in Northern Tool Equipment a little better.
Well, I am an information gatherer ( before I start any project ), so I will do that in the time being. Planning is half the fun.
let the research begin............. 8)

If building is half the fun, and planning is half the fun, what's left for camping? :R

Camping represents the third half of the fun!

I built on the Northern Tool 5x8 trailer. Very happy with it!

Welcome aboard, Bennett. Jump right in with both feet, by getting that trailer frame, for starters. Then it will be too late to turn back. We are all kind of designers, builders, copy-cats, experimentalists, mistake makers, and well aware that most of the time, "you can't build just one!!" Good luck on your build, remember, wood is good. It just requires sanding and re-varnishing every year, and in a pinch, it floats! I guess alum, fiberglass, filon and such are OK too.

Here's the math the way i figure it :
Planning 50% of the fun
Building 50% of the fun
Then you actually get to have more fun, and that's a new calculation.

D(driving) + LR(looks received) + X(explanations) + S(setting up) + C(cooking) + I ( interacting with other TDs ) = 100% :)

Please put in your location on your ID, you might be pleasantly surprised and find a guy down the street who might help with that built or tell you where you can get what in your town.

Welcome aboard
