Teardrop Tire Table

Postby Wayne in maryland » Tue Apr 17, 2012 9:55 am

So this is probably on here somewhere and I just don't know where to look.

On thge RV Crazy video there is a little old lady who has a spare tire on the back of her teardrop. The tire swings out on a support and then flips over to form a table. I have started to manufacture a frame that will do this but wanted to see if I am reinventing the wheel...(get it...lol)

Looking for any and all help and advice.

I tried but I could not get the table to stay steady, I may redesign and try again.

If you look at Marge's mount it is quite substantial. A 40 - 50 pound tire loose bouncing down the roadway is a very scarey site. There are a few very nice continental kit style
spares / tables on this forum. I have chubby's bent and formed out of 2" exhaust tubing from my boys at the muffler shop I simply have not found the remaining parts to make the indexed mounting hub.

Just a thought on making the tyable stay steady would be to add an umbrella. The umbrella rod could act as a leg for the table if screwed down.

I plan to have a cable going through the tire and attached to the frame so it does break loose either on its own or in accident it will stay with the trailer.

And here I thought this was about listing the table for different sized tires and weights for the teardrop sized trailer. LOL
back to the forum table of contents.

Most of these are folks that have a spare tire and have found a use for it as a table.
I tried to make just a table and was going to use a tire but mine was all of wood and in an accident it could fly. Hence the cable idea. Many trailers have different size tires and so yes you are right. It would be about different size tires. How ever we have not talked about weight. I wanted mine in the back so it was less weight on the tung.
does that help?

well my trailer empty is about 800 lbs. I have 78r-13 's on it. I plan for more weight. I was considering making the spare mount for under the trailer, at the tongue. out of sight, handy, ... (My door are at the back. :? )
Otherwise I suppose I should go to a tire center and get their "tire table" for my tiny travel trailer.
I wonder if I should go full width as the regulars for the spare?

I would ask that question under general topic. asking not only what size but where to keep it.
I have talked with others about this. Some have the same size tire for the car and trailer and use that spare, and there fore it sits in the pull unit.
What you want is one that can let you continue your trip with out stopping at a tire store. the space savers only let you drive a few miles to a station.
I have harbor freight tires and the spare is the same tire.
you might also run that by your tire store too. Some times it is fun to just go to a place that sells trailers and pick the brains of the people there. I often go to places like that to get parts that I can not find anywhere else, Trailer talk is what they are about.

I am going to have a tire table spare mount fabricated, I think. The problems are that there is a no room under the trailer, the spare needs to be aft of the wheels as there is already a large tongue weight. On top of this is the aluminum frame and the bump in the galley hatch which means it is at an angle.
