Best trailer to use?

Postby mikencfl65 » Wed Apr 18, 2012 12:15 pm

What would be the best 4x8 trailer to use?
The one sold at Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply?
I see a the Harbor Freight trailer is about 50.00 cheaper.

Anyone have there thought?

This will be my first build.

Thank you

Ummm ... the one from Tractor Supply is made in the USA, if I'm not mistaken, using readily available bearings & races and US DOT-approved coupler. I'd go with that one!

Good Luck, and as always ...

I also have looked at the Tractor Supply trailer and I think it will be the one I buy for my next build. Way better.

Is a shame tractor supply does not sell a 5x8
Hard to get a double mattress in a 4x8

Thanks for the input!

You can build up over the wheels and make the body 5' wide :beer:

Best trailer to use?

I had my 5x8 trailer frame built by a local trailer shop, and it cost the same as the Northern Tool one.

The benefits being:
* welded frame
* custom gussets for bolting teardrop to the trailer, so I wouldn't need to make holes in the frame
* larger wheels/tires
* stronger axle
* no nagging feeling that the last pothole rattled a bolt loose
* support for local small businesses

My point is, if you're going to pony up the $500 anyway, the better value is with a custom one.
Sure you can make the HF/NT trailers as good as a custom welded one, but that's extra $ that could be used to buy wood etc.
