Postby john curtis » Sun May 13, 2012 12:32 am

Hi everyone its been awhile since I ha ve posted. Was wondering if anyone has a honda 2000 generator. The other thing I was wondering about was I have 30 amp power in my TD and to do the hook up to the generator I would have to use a 30 to 15 amp cord converter, will ther be any change in the power draw ? Thanks for any help John

having a 30 amp plug and cord means you can have anywhere from 0 (zero) to 30 (thirty) amps of electricity
available for use you most likely will never need the whole 30 amps just something less
so if you want to say plug in a light and a television or a radio using the "dog Bone" 30 to 15 amp adapter would work
very well, however if you want to run an air conditionerner you would or could draw more than the allowed 15 amps and
"kick" the circuit breaker.
if you want to see what other's have done with their Honda EU2000 generators a good group is yahoo groups
honda_eu2000_generators they have lots of mods and are willing to help, I found the site very informative.

Nope, you'll draw exactly the same as if connected to a 30 amp receptacle. The Honda will simply disconnect itself if you draw more power than it can supply. Turn some electrical stuff off to reduce your power draw, turn off the generator and restart it. That resets the generator and you're back in action.

I have a honda 2000 generator and my trailer is wired for 30 amp service. Its no different then plugging your trailer in to a standard outlet with an adapter.. The generator only puts out around 13 amps with a 16+ amp surge.. So yeah your power is limited to what the generator will power. The adapter it self doesn't limit anything. It just changes the big plug to a little plug.

As far as the genny itself goes - one of my camping buddies has one. At our 'usual spot', he put it just over the bank down toward the creek and you can't hear it over the normal hubbub of camping (with kids). Obviously you'd hear it more at night when things are quiet, but it's not running then.

I got one with the 3 way porpane conversion. Propane, natural gas, or gasoline. But I only use propane.
That way I can keep it inside the apartment without the gasoline smell. :D
Got it from these guys.

My set up. Being propane powered I don't have to worry about gasoline smell or using a gas stabilizer.

The Honda EU2000 generator has a companion to it that has a direct 30 amp plug, no need to use a dog bone converter. The only problem is there are no general 15amp outlets on it. This companion generator will hook into series with a standard EU2000 generator as well.

I don't have a roof top air conditioner so I dont need 30 amps.
Had I needed 30 amps I would have bought the 3000 watt unit
I allready had this generator so I saw no reason to get another large one.

How long does a tank of propane last?

I have an ETQ propane generator and it usually lasts on avg about 15 hrs on a grill bottle.

I read a post where a guy welded a short tailpipe over the exhaust outlet on his generator and then used flex exhaust pipe with a clamp out to a normal car muffler from advance auto parts and could stand by his generator and talk and converse after this. Just unbolt it for moving and reconnect it when setup again.

I very seldom use my Honda Eu2000i at full throttle & the 'Eco' switch is always set to 'on' thus it only runs at rpm necessary to provide power for the current load. Unless we have a large appliance such as A/C or M/W in use I can stand adjacent to the Honda & carry on a conversation at normal voice level. Couple of years ago we camped in NF C/G at 10K ft in SW Colorado. We'd exhausted the batteries in both digital cameras that day so after checking with the C/G Host I started the Honda to recharge. We had light rain showers on the mountain so I draped a small tarp loosely over the generator. Couple of neighbors came by & stopped to admire & ask questions about the TD. The Honda was so quiet that one fellow was pretty startled when he realized the generator was running under the tarp he was standing next to. We've used it to power the PetCool A/C & a small microwave on a number of occasions. It has never proved inadequate & I've never found another that's as quiet comparatively...

Just before I put tarp over the generator

Hi everyone. I went out and bought the 2000 on Friday night and started it up on Saturday with a full tank of gas and still had fuel when we left Monday afternoon. It runs so quiet that and powered everything we had with us with no problems at all.My buddy that came with us was drooling all weekend, it wont be long befor he goes and buys one too. I looked into the 2000 companion model at the Honda dealer and they told me that it was the American model and that they could'nt get them. As for connecting there was no issus with the dog bone and the 30 amp. cord. Money well spent.
Thanks for all the info John
