torsion axle swing arm to body clearance

Postby deltaguy23 » Tue May 22, 2012 11:01 pm

hello everyone

I am currently into my build and stumbled across something I should research a little more " my build is a body covering the sides of the frame , and how I am doing it is with a 2x2 wood border glued and screwed to the sides and front of the frame to attach the walls so I can hide the frame from view , I sort of mocked it up with one wall to check clearance between the tire and wall and I have 1" from tire to wall which seemed ok from the posts Ive read, but there is one thing that I noticed about the torsion swing arm , it is only 1/4" from the wall and that is getting close , question is should I increase the clearance? anyone with more experience than I your expertise is accepted here please advise!

thanks in advance joe

Hey, Joe!

1/4" is fine ... a little tight, but I've gotten away with as little as 1/8" ... remember that the trailing arm of a torsion axle moves straight up & down, without any twisting movement (unless it's worn out ... ...!). Same with tire clearance, BTW.

Good Luck, and as always ...

hey grant thanks a whole lot! I was not sure if clearance was much of a factor but glad I asked" hey I am going to hit you up later for 2 of those black louvered windows the same 2bits used in his build, let me know if you still have those in stock.

Hi, Joe!

I'm not exactly sure which size of window 2bits used, but I typically keep a good stock of each size on hand ... let me know what size when you are ready. As always, then ...

Hey Joe, I

One of the few things I didn't get from Grant was the side crank out windows, I cannot recall why. I got them from Big Woody Campers: http://www.bigwoodyteardropcampers.com/windows/

Here are Grants too: http://www.lilbear.teardrops.net/parts4.html#windows
