Pico Light Foam and fiberglass

That looks like it is coming along nicely. Too bad cold weather slows down the cure. I hate waiting for stuff to dry. Makes me crazy . I'm glad I decided not to glass my interior though, I can't imagine how messy that must be. You are a braver soul than I. I'm not looking forward to glassing my front curve on the outside when I get to that point. That has the potential to be one drippy, messy job. I guess it's an issue of getting the epoxy thick enough. Good idea on using the boards to hold the foam down. I'm worried about my foam panels trying to move or spring back when I assemble it so I will definitely be doing something similar. Great work. In spite of waiting for your epoxy, you're moving along at a pretty good clip.

Thanks Mel, it was messy but not to bad. I waited to bolt the body to the frame so I can turn it and keep it from dripping all over me.

I brought the body into the house and placed a heater in the room and that did the trick of getting the interior roof to set up nice. posting.php?mode=reply&f=55&t=50313#

Next step was getting a layer of cloth and epoxy on the exterior of the roof. So... here are some pics. One more layer of cloth on the exterior, hopefully I'll get that done Sunday. Right now we are having some great weather, if it holds out should be great for the curing and I won't have to bring it in or heat it. Here is hoping!!! posting.php?mode=reply&f=55&t=50313#


this pic is of the cloth being laid out and cut to fit and the relief cuts in the cloth so I can make the bends.

Forgot to mention in that post, the screws and boards did a fair job of holding everything in place while working on the interior. What I did for the outside and to make sure the roof was as tight to the body as possible was to tie a heavy string around the outside edge of the roof and used tie-down ratchets to pull it very tight. I just epoxied over the top of the string and will cut off the ends once it is cured. The roof is glass over a honey comb material 1/2" thick with cotton backing on both sides. It is called, "Plasticore."

To be fair to everyone, I guess I never said I was making the roof out of the Plasticore. Sorry about the confusion. Very pleased with the strength of this thing, I put all of my weight on the rood last night 202lbs. and it didn't even bow. That is with only one coat of cloth and epoxy. I still have one more to go. The good weather is sure welcomed here as it sure speeds up the curing!

I don't want to redirect anyone from your wonderful build so perhaps could you in another thread tell us a little more about Plasticore? Is it flexible enough to bend, etc.
