I have lost my mind. I know I have. I am going to custom bend a single piece cap for the door and edges. Yuppers,
I saw brown aluminum flashing at the box store tonight. Guess what followed me home? Plus a T square and a pair of good work gloves that are too big for my hands.

You say? Ok!
A shot of the ali on the work table and held in place with the new t square and c clamps. I used long nose pliers and a hammer to bend things. Worked okay. This bend is to make a fold so there won't be a sharp edge on the door.

This is a slightly different shot of the bending. Working pretty well. The brown scratches, of course. I don't know what I'm doing, but it seems to be working. It looks like what I had imagined.

C clamps are my friend.

Lastly, I used pliers and mushed the bent edge back so that the leading edge would be rounded. If it doesn't crinkle too much, I'm thinking the edge will look pretty cool on the front of the door. I'm planning on an inch overhang. If it does crinkle, I'm going to try and make it do it in an orderly fashion and then tell everyone it's a design element.

Course it still needs some mushing. It's late here, so I thought I'd better not annoy the neighbors any more.

Then, as I was uploading these pictures, I realized I hadn't posted a picture of the full cedar treatment for the door's interior. So here's one last

I'm pretty stoked with how things are turning out. Lots of work yet to do, but the weekend is coming and I'm tickled. That edging is going to hide a lot of "design elements"

Oh, and a 6" 1/8 drill bit followed me home, too. I need to make really long pilot holes for the door hinges.

Thanks everyone for looking and commenting. Your suggestions and comments have helped me a lot. I appreciate it.
